No flexibility whatsoever :(
Two days after I booked my tour, the Honduran government changed its entry requirements, meaning British citizens now need a visa. This process has been slow and stressful to say the least, and it has now become apparent that I won’t be issued a visa in time for the tour. As soon as this became clear, I called Intrepid for guidance. On the phone, I proposed several options, such as arranging my own transport to avoid Honduras or changing to an alternative tour date to allow more time for the Honduran embassy to issue my visa, but I was told these weren’t possible. I didn’t want or ask for a refund, just for the opportunity to do the same tour on a different date, but Intrepid refused. Instead, they encouraged me to cancel my trip with just a 40% refund. I’m so disappointed that I’ll be missing the tour and losing so much money. I appreciate that this is outside of anyone’s control. However, situations like this arise all the time when travelling internationally, and you would hope that a large company like Intrepid would be able to offer a solution that was fair. If you’re looking for a tour company, go elsewhere! Over the years, I have travelled with both G Adventures and Contiki Travel, and at both companies, I personally witnessed them go out of their way to help people in situations like this. Booking with Intrepid won’t be worth the stress in case something goes wrong, which it often does when travelling.
