Probably my last Intrepid Tour
Last year I went on a Japanese Highlights trip, which was fantastic!! This year I decided to complement that trip with the Southern Japan Experience. I was really looking forward to it, and then I met my co-travelers. I was the youngest and I’m 65, it wasn’t their age but their mindset…. OLD! And then there was my nightmare roomy, no option for a single supplement. I snore when I’m really tired, which I was. Next morning, it was “Did you know you snore, I couldn’t sleep through it, I can’t use ears plugs and what are you going to do about YOUR problem.” I was stressed about my snoring, and made a joke about me keeping her awake to the rest of the group. My roomie then proceeded to give me the cold shoulder… WTH!? Not a particularly constructive reaction. I asked her if she wasn’t talking to me, and then it all came out. “My problem. I should talk to the company about it etc etc.” I then elected to pay for separate accommodation, and as pretty much the whole town was booked out, I spent the day trying to find a room which I finally did. I got there under my own steam. The following night I moved back to the Intrepid hotel, albeit a smoking room as that was the only one left. After spending an additional Aus$250 I decided my roomie could suck it up, and moved back into our room, where we proceeded to ignore each other for the next two night. Argh!! We (she) gradually defrosted…. And by the time we got to the end of the tour we were OK, and I hope to never see her again! I paid quite a lot of money for so-so accommodation, with a bunch of people who wouldn’t know a good time if they tripped over it. Never again!!
