Loved the Canadian Rockies Trip!!
I’ve just finished the Canadian Rockies tour with the outstanding guide/driver/great food maker Max! I found intrepid very good with communication and really put my mind at rest when asking my questions. Pros- Max is just a gem and a real asset for representing Intrepid. He is a safe driver, good at each day of plans and informing us for the day or next day ( with his funny humour too). Max gave plenty of time for us to explore places and no question was too much for him. He drove long distances and then set up to cook us all dinner. The $300 food kitty is great value (with a rebate per person at the end as we didn’t spend it all). It worked out to CA $22 per person with breakfast, lunch (made in the morning at breakfast) and dinner. Lots of salad, meats and veg. Max always remembered my veggie options (thanks!). I saved a lot with the food kitty. The variation of our daily treks was great waterfalls, options (some not included in the cost of the trip which is detailed in the itinerary). I felt the trip was excellent value for money and a good mix of guests and ages 19-63 (11 in total ) on the mini bus We were gently encouraged to think sustainably with water bottles etc which linked to Intrepid’s values. The glacier walk with the company & guide Tamara that Max sorted was fabulous! I just loved Clearwater Lake with the canoeing and wilderness camping! If you’re unfit think about getting fitter pre-trip as a couple of hikes are physically challenging, but Max made provision for rest stops and no judgement of you didn’t attend. Cons- The tents accomodate two people and really do need a ground sheet as the grass can be wet and come through the tent ( we had glorious weather 95% of the time but a few rainy night ). The mattresses are very thin and sleep can be compromised- maybe bring your own ( I bought my own pillow, blanket and sheets in Whistler on day 2) The Sandman Airport hotel I wouldn’t book again. I shared a room ( two queen beds) with another guest on the trip but you’re charged per person for a room usually costed for the room. Maybe if an Intrepid employee is on a ‘Familiarisation’ trip they should not criticise other guests to group members saying we were sarcastic when we were actually having funny banter about the location of the bathroom on one site. Also, they should not make others feel awkward and on edge when they had a hissy fit over drying the dishes (no excuse no matter what is going on). Either don’t say you’re an intrepid employee or be more professional (the only plus was that they gave good information about other trips)
