Wonderful, exhilarating and so worth it
Six of us plus our tour leader met in Yerevan. Two each from USA, UK and Australia with ages ranging from late 50s to early 70s. It was much warmer in Armenia and Tbilisi than expected - mid 30sC. Abundant cool drinking water fountains were found throughout Yerevan. Food and wine were consistently very good in both Armenia and Georgia. The minibus and public bus were comfortable and we had plenty of room. The minibus ride from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda was a ‘white knuckle ride’ - both scary and exhilarating. The mountains and scenery are simply stunning. The hike to Gergheti church and then back down was physically challenging but there was no rush so everyone made it through without any problems. Both Armenia and Georgia were perfectly safe both in a group and on my own. Most people speak Armenian/Georgian and Russian. While younger folk speak enough English for travelers to get by, having a few phrases in Russian certainly helps. The stunning views of Mount Ararat from Armenia and Mount Kazbegi in Georgia (Stepantsminda) were highlights. I thoroughly recommend this trip. It was fantastic!
