Dont bother with these people if your child is dyslexic

We enrolled our dyslexic 14 yr old son over the summer before going into the 9th grade with the lafayette, La sylvan learning center. We started out with an interview with the person who was in charge of the enrollments. Her name was Kristy. She assured us that all of their tutors were experienced with dyslexic students. She also assured us that if our son qualified for a grant at a later time that we would be able to apply it towards the balance we would owe on his current tuition. We signed a contract to make payments through a third party loan company. The tuition was $3,000.00 for 12 hrs of tutoring. He had his 12 hrs of tutoring over the summer before starting 9th grade. Our son did not learn one thing with these people. All of the tutors are not qualified to teach dyslexic students and the one that they did have was rarely available for our son on the days that he went. We were still obligated to pay the $3,000 because we signed a contract with them. We found out at the end of the summer that he qualified for a $1,500 grant so we tried to put it towards the $3,000 that we owed and they then told us that that wasn't allowed that we could only apply it to future tutoring sessions. So she basically lied through her teeth to us in the initial interview to get us to sign the contract. I guess I should have been more careful when signing the contract. I should have made sure that it had what she told us in writing, because we are now stuck with a $3,000 debt to this third party company for tutoring that did not help our son in the least bit. Then to put the icing on the cake, we tried to use the grant to sign him up for future sessions and were turned down by Kristy. Sylvan may be great for an average student but if your student is dyslexic, please take this review to heart. don't bother wasting your time or your money with these people. They are liars and crooks!!!! If they make any promises to you, make sure they are listed in the contract because they WILL go back on their words.
