A long wait for refunds

I have bought Hotter shoes for years as they are really well made and provide excellent value, but their refund policy leaves a lot to be desired. Why does it take up to a month when other well known companies refund in as little as three working days ? I have sent two emails recently asking when I am likely to be receive the £72 that is owed, but so far have had no reply...
