Withholding refund Payment-Fraud
Withholding refund Payment-Fraud I am extremely disappointed with my experience with the Finance and Refunds Department at Arden University regarding a confirmed tuition overpayment refund. I overpaid more than a high amount of money (+4000 euro) in tuition fees, and despite the university confirming the refundable balance themselves, I have now been waiting for months to receive my money back. The only reason this overpayment was even discovered was because I personally identified inconsistencies in my student payment records and raised the issue myself. Since then, the entire process has been a complete disaster: • repeated payment delays and broken promises • multiple internal “conversion errors” admitted by the university • constantly changing explanations and timelines • weeks without meaningful communication • requests for additional documents long after the process had already started • no direct finance contact available, no one is picking up the phone since months! What kind of service support is this for distance learners?? • promises of payment dates that repeatedly passed without the refund being sent What makes this even worse is the lack of accountability. Every time a promised payment date arrived, another excuse followed. At one point I was explicitly told the refund had been added to a payment run, only to later be informed that it had not actually been processed due to yet another internal error. Meanwhile, students are expected to pay tuition fees immediately and face serious consequences if they fail to do so. But when the university owes thousands back to a student, suddenly months of delays, poor communication, and administrative mistakes seem to be acceptable. The academic side of the university may be fine, but my experience with the finance department has been one of the most frustrating and unprofessional situations I have ever dealt with. I spent months chasing money that was already acknowledged as owed to me, while repeatedly being given inaccurate timelines and contradictory information. At this stage, I genuinely lost trust in the process and had to escalate the matter formally and seek legal advice and report the issue to the police due to the ongoing delays and repeated failures to process the refund correctly. Students deserve transparency, accountability, and professionalism, especially when large sums of money are involved. Many of us make enormous personal and financial sacrifices just to afford higher education, so experiencing this level of incompetence and delay is honestly shameful. If the situation were reversed and a student failed to pay their tuition fees on time, they would immediately face serious consequences, potentially even losing their place at the university without any grace or flexibility. Yet when the university owes thousands back to a student, repeated delays, broken promises, and poor communication suddenly seem to be acceptable. For me this seams like FRAUD. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Arden University’s to anyone.
