40% hike in membership fees gave me a nasty shock!
I have been a member of Nuffield gym for about 3 years. It’s a good gym with nice facilities and a pool. The staff are generally friendly and helpful. I was shocked to receive an email from the management on April Fool’s Day telling me that they were hiking the price of my membership up by 40%! No, it isn’t an April Fool, they are deadly serious. I spoke to a manager at the gym the following day, who told me he knew nothing about it and he’d get somebody else to speak to me. I pointed out that 40% is a huge increase. It bears no relation to the cost of living crisis or inflation rates. Imagine my disappointment to then receive a further email today about my enquiry which stated that they could do it, they are within their rights to increase the fee. Well, that might be so, but just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. There was no rationale provided about how the figure of 40% had been arrived at. That was very conveniently ignored. I am so disappointed with Nuffield and I want other people to be aware of this practice as I think it reflects very badly on them.
