Avoid! Scam!
If you looking at reviews before rental and can cancel- just do it. You will get ripped of one way or another. Before hire or after. Better leave and get a taxi! It will be cheaper! Worst experience with car hire in my life. These cowboys think they are still in Wild West. Hired car on 27/05 for a week in Kaunas Airport. My mistake- only checked reviews after hire. The kiosk is out of airport territory- about 10 minutes walk away. Was greeted with- “do you have IDP (international drivers permit)”? After answering that I don’t and I don’t need as it is not required by law I was told that with Panek I do. Never needed it Spain or France or other EU countries. I was told that if I buy their insurance I will be ok then. €480 for 7 days when car hire was supposed to cost 160€. While I was thinking about my options and whether to leave and look at some other transport options my daughter fainted. It was extremely hot- around 30C. No AC in kiosk. And I had another two kids and wife waiting. So decided to pay and get out of there. Was given big bunch of paperwork to sign with small text. Signed everywhere where agent showed me to. Another mistake! In that bunch was car return page that I signed without looking! I was given VW Taigo instead of Peugeot 508 or similar. Didn’t even care then. About after a month of getting back to UK started getting emails, messages phone calls from debt collection company from Lithuania. They were looking for 288€. Thought that some scammers but they sent me a letter later and an invoice for apparently damaged tyres. No communication from Panek. Got the return agreement page from debt collectors and above my signature (that I signed on collection) was hand written text above my signature that I admit of damaging tyres and agree to pay 218€. Reported them to police for falsifying documents but police don’t really care. Got the answer from officer that I could have possibly damaged the tyres and it doesn’t matter if someone falsified and inserted the text above my signature. Panek said that the agent didn’t wright the text but someone did and they don’t now who. Funny enough nearly 500€ that I paid for insurance covers everything except the tyres. I’ve sent an email to Panek asking for explanation. The answer was- read the agreement and don’t bother us anymore because we won’t answer. I’ll be reporting them to trading standards agency now. Something needs to be done with these scammers. They are the shame of our country. Imagine first impression of the country you are visiting- is being ripped of? Would you want to go back?
