Aldi is becoming a bad place to shop - prices going up and unfriendly staff no longer a convenience
I was shopping with my 17 year old daughter who was assisting me with unloading our groceries from the trolley onto the conveyor belt and again loading the trolley once groceries had been scanned - this is our weekly ritual as I encourage my daughter to assist with all chores including shopping. Amongst the groceries there was one bottle of red wine and I was told aggressively just as I was about to pay that I wasn't allowed to purchase the bottle of wine because my daughter had 'touched it'. As I had never heard of this policy before nor had been stopped in the past - I questioned him because I could not see the rationale behind it and asked him to explain, I had also asked him 'why didn't he alert me to this when it happened' rather than making a scene in front of the waiting customers queued behind me, again he became agitated and aggressively responded. I offered to purchase the bottle of wine separately and was then told that I am not allowed to reenter the store and purchase any alcohol for 24 hours. I left the store very embarrassed and publicly humiliated as all customers gazed at myself and daughter through this incident. I am an advocate for having workplace policies and procedures in place and training staff to follow these but surely Aldi must include ways of conveying these to customers respectfully.
