We were very happy with Travel Insurance Direct as they emailed us regularly and the last email we received before our trip was very helpful reminding us of items to pack. Thankfully we didn't have a claim and it was nice to receive a welcome home email from Travel Insurance Direct. We will definitely consider using them again in the future.
It's not the cheapest policy but it really was a great experience with TID. I had one injury and fell sick once during my trip, and it was all covered without any hassle. I would definitely recommend TID to anyone.
This is the third time we have used Travel Insurance Direct and once again very happy with their follow up service after our return. Luckily our trip went well and we didn't need to make any claims but I have had to on another trip and they were excellent in the way the claim was handled and paid. Would definately use TID again and also recommend.
We have insured many times with TID for our family holidays over the years. We have never had the need to claim until our recent trip to Bali where flights were delayed / cancelled due to volcanic ash. Nothing was too much trouble for TID. Their help line assisted us after hours with practical advice. Unfortunately we did have to make a claim (first claim ever with a travel insurer). This is the second time I have used TID and lucky for us I have not had to use the insurance. My recent use found me having to call customer service to finalise the premium. My call was answered quickly and the customer service was excellent. Very easy website and great customer service.
My baggage was lost upon arrival to Croatia. I called TID customer service thinking that I need to report it immediately. The lady who answered the call was confused and asked me what I really wanted/expected. I tried explaining the situation but all I got from her was that I'll need to fill in the claim upon my return to Australia. I was under a different impression when I was reading the contract. Anyway, my baggage was found some 10 hours later. I think that personel answering the calls from people in distress should be much better trained.
I have been on business travel almost for the whole of 2015 so far. I had taken travel insurance policies with Travel Insurance Direct four times and extended the cover few more times. I had cover from TID almost 90% of 2015 so far. I needed assistance during two trips, once when my spectacles glasses were broken and my checked in luggage was cracked and then recently my flight from Singapore to Brisbane was cancelled by Jetstar. In both occasions the staff and the TID were of least help and refused to assist. To claim for my glasses and suitcase I needed to provide proof of ownership which is difficult to produce. It is also not about the amount of money but the willingness to assist in need was not present. I will be travelling again in 10 days and will not be taking any more policies with TID. I will be reverting to my previous insurer QBE through Qantas Insurance.
I have used Travel Insurance Direct for a number of years now on all international flights and regard TID as good value, easy to use and providing great peace of mind. When the earthquake hit Bali this month I was not worried about cancelled flights or reservations. That's when you know it's worth it.

The way travel insurance should be: clear, concise coverage. A great app to travel with. I had no concerns but everything claim wise was easy to comprehend, Go with them, Oh, the premium was very competitive .
I've booked travel insurance with them 3-4 times. Very competitive pricing, easy to read and understand policies, the app is awesome, and the travel tips and especially the visa information is very up-to-date and reliable. I've never had to make a claim but they send follow-up emails after your trip to check you're all good. So easy to use that I don't even bother comparing to other insurance companies any more and just book with these guys straight away.

I have had to claim twice now, first time international after being robbed in Italy by Gypsies and a second time this year in Australia due to the death of a relative with costs involved in attending the funeral. On both occasions my claims have been fully met. I have recommended TID to friends.

When I started looking for travel insurance to cover my husband and I, I ran into a big problem. Most companies, well, the ones that I felt comfortable with, did not cover you if you didn't leave from an Australian port for this trip. Which means after six months (the length of most airfares) you would not be covered. We are travelling the world for a few years, so this was going to be a big problem. I rang TID and also sent a follow up email so that I had it in writing that I would be travelling for a few years, so would I be covered? They said as long as I intended to come home eventually, then yes. And of course we do intend to go home, just not now. But you never know if this is true until you put in a claim. I became in ill in Canada and put in a claim,16 months after leaving Australia. It was accepted. So I will feel much better taking out our next 12-month policy. It was more expensive than some of the others, but if the other's don't pay when they should, you have wasted your money.
