Many Tears Rescue - an excellent rescue centre

Many tears do an excellent job in matching dogs to their forever homes. I adopted an ex breeding female dog of 7 years of age. The vetting and home check I had was to ensure that I would be a suitable owner, as these dogs need lots of patience, love and time to decompress. I would highly recommend them if you’re looking to rehome a dog or a cat.

Love corgi's

We have taken on two ex breeding Pembrokeshire corgi's from many tears and cannot praise them enough for what they do and continue to do. We have had Megan for two years and Caru for one. They are now both enjoying retirement with as much love and attention we can give them. I cannot understand the negative reviews from some, so thought I should respond with my own experience. I understand the vetting procedure can be testing, but it needs to be for the sake of the dogs. Most have already had a bad start and now require a special ending for their final years. We have experienced only good and caring advice from all associated with Many Tears. I can only thank Many Tears for all they do for these poor dogs and I will always support and champion what they do. Long may it continue, Please keep up the very difficult work you do. Thank you David and Fiona

In memory of Ingrid

If Zero stars were possible, that would be my rating. MANY TEARS ANIMAL RESCUE has admitted they did NOT do a 'Home Check' before placing a GREAT DANE, one of the largest breeds of dog, on foster at a property in our village. That dog jumped over the low garden fence at the property and attacked our beautiful greyhound Ingrid as we walked past, causing her fear, pain, suffering and death. There were MULTIPLE FAILINGS listed in their own report and 7 CHANGES IN PROCEDURE have been identified as being required, along with the gardens of ALL THEIR CURRENT FOSTER HOMES BEING REASSESSED. We have had to fight every step of the way to get to this point. Yes they are a dog rescue and Yes they are a charity, but neither of those should be used as a shield when something so horrific and that was 100% PREVENTABLE happens. If the garden fence was higher, Ingrid would still be alive and I would not have to live with the constant flashbacks, anxiety and sleep deprivation that now dominate my life. It could have been any dog, or even a child. That day it was Ingrid. In her memory we are trying to prevent anything like this from ever happening again. A liability investigation is now under way and the Charity Commission is also involved. Many Tears Animal Rescue have told us to “proceed externally as you feel appropriate”. A review feels "appropriate".

This is very difficult to write but…

This is very difficult to write but here we go . I’d like to point out this is not to hate on Many Tears Animal Rescue as many of the staff there were lovely however I feel I have to put my experience out there !! About a month ago me and my partner went to visit many tears during one the guided tours , along with also looking to see about a job as we had seen they were advertising in which I was told that there were over 100 applications already so I shouldn’t bother as the role would be taken quickly but yet they are still advertising for the same job. Whilst walking around viewing the dogs ( which they have over 200 of) I was instantly drawn to one of the first dogs I saw , Lola the 2 year old cockpoo , me and my partner fell in love with her 🥰, once the tour had come to an end we asked for permission to go and see Lola again ( turns out it was her first day there on show !!) we went through to her kennel and spent over an hour playing with her and falling more and more in love , we knew this was our dog and she absolutely LOVED the cuddles!!!! We decided we wanted to adopt Lola so straight away went to the reception to ask how to go about this , we were aware that due to us being 18 we would have to have a person over 25 to agree the adoption at some point but were told it wouldn’t have to be at the moment. We were told that due to Lola being new in she was not up on the website as of yet so we had to apply for a different dog and state in the description that it was for Lola , so we instantly went to the car and applied!!! The next day we went up at 1pm and spent hours with Lola getting to know her , taking her outside to play and learning about what she knows and doesn’t, whilst doing this many staff members continued telling us how happy they were for us , how much Lola loves us and how excited they were for us to adopt this sweet girl. Unfortunately the following day we couldn’t visit Lola due to having work however we did get an email that day stating “ thank you so much for your application to adopt Lola !!! Before we can proceed we just need a few more details about the hours worked by the people over 25 in the household “ Me and my partner were SO excited as reading this meant that we had a MASSIVE chance to adopt her and we felt that the way this was worded meant that they were going to approve our application however just need a few more details, so yet again we instantly emailed back to ensure we didn’t waste any time Later that day we realised Lola was no longer available and we were extremely confused, we rang many tears instantly and were told she had been reserved by someone else , we were beyond devastated, we had built a huge connection with this dog over the past few days and had so much positivity from staff the confusion was ridiculous. The next day we went to many tears ( bear in mind we had arranged to come up that Saturday anyway to take Lola for a walk ) we thought that it must have been a mistake, however this was not the case we found out we had been lied to and that due to being 18 we were unable to apply for a dog at all and that we were told this (which we were not and the website also stated you have to be 25 for very nervous ex breeding dogs which Lola was not ) we were also told that the hours on which the people over 25 worked meant Lola would be home on her own for to long however we stated in the email that there would ALWAYS be someone over the aged of 18 at home with Lola So no we didn’t get our dog , we had been lied to , fed false information, given false hope , and built a bond with a dog they knew we couldn’t have . If anyone under 25 thinks of adopting from here I wouldn’t bother as they will only lead u on ( I was the one holding Lola in her picture for the website ) Saying this we hope Lola is enjoying her knew home and is loved just as much as we loved her because she deserves a happy home

Amazing …

I really can’t understand the negative reviews from start to finish many tears have been amazing. We adopted an Airedale that had clearly had a horrible start in life.Sylvia and her team could not have loved and cared for Dolly better. Sylvia, kept us informed on all the way through with daily updates. The bonus is we have the most amazing dog. After many years of having dogs I would only rescue now. Many tears are the most loving caring dogs home and would recommend to anyone if there looking for a new family member. Highly recommend

Rehoming experience

After application went through and home check was passed as all okay we made our way to Carmarthen to pick up a lovely dog who needed a home. Unfortunately due to miscommunication from staff we were refused and told she was not allowed to go with us reason given was she'd need to go to a home with another dog there. I really wish I'd known this beforehand as we left there upset at leaving her there. I would advise that even though you are given a timeline in which to collect a dog check and double check speak to manager to confirm adoption rehoming can go ahead. The 3stars are for the friendly communication with homecheck. I agree the dogs welfare comes first and am glad to find she has since found her new forever home but please check all okay before travelling there.

We rescued an ex breeder dog about 12 weeks ago from Many Tears. Our dog is nearly 5yr old and had never been in a home before. We travelled to MT and did a meet and greet with her. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly and answered any questions we had. We had a few issues with our girl not eating or drinking enough, but having talked to one of their behaviourist the issues have improved. They all do a fantastic job.

Exceptional dog rescue.

I have a wonderful little Romanian dog from Many Tears. It is an outstanding rescue.Staff are committed to finding the right homes for the dogs in their care. Many dogs are ex- breeders from puppy farms. The kennels are always clean and staff know the dogs in their care individually.

We applied to adopt a 1yr old Spaniel last week. We have 2 ourselves & 2 cats who all get on fine. There is the odd time the dogs will run after the cats but never, ever hurt them. We are an active, retired couple & spend time walking, camping & using our camper in the Lakes. This Spaniel has never lived in a home & failed the cat test. How has she failed a cat test if she’s never lived in a home. Our cats were here before the dogs. I was told on 2 occasions, ‘no’, she cannot be rehomed with cats. Let us give her a chance. I’m brokenhearted for her.

Prepare for heartbreak!

Whilst undoubtedly Many Tears do some incredible work with rescues, and all credit to staff in the yard working day to day. Unfortunately, they are represented by power hungry staff in the office. Staff who would rather keep a dog in the kennels than let them leave to a loving home. Staff that move the goalposts re: home checks, in terms of expectations. Staff that, rather than work with you on solutions, would rather give a computer says no answer. Unfortunately, it seems the adoption system is flawed with a lack of common sense. Many Tears are dead against breeders, but would rather force you down that route than work with prospective adopters. They operate on pre-conceived ideas and misconceptions, with a complete lack of flexibility to do physical home checks - I guess its easier to say no behind a phone!

Totally ignorant

Totally ignorant to the needs of the animals in their care. Dog owner for 35 years, all rescues, all with difficult backgrounds, I have even been a home checker for a dog rescue. Rejected our application due to my ‘children’ being under 25, they are 19 and 21, both have grown up with rescued dogs. Would rather see animals suffer in a kennel than allow adoption by experienced owners.

Corrupt Second hand Shop

Do not donate items to the second hand shop in Yateley, Hampshire. They claim that all profits go to the charity. This is not the case, most items do not make the shop floor, instead they are taken by volunteers /and/or pennies paid for them. The items are then sold at car boot sales, ebay & jewellery shops every week. By donating to this shop you are not helping needy animals but instead lining the pockets of greedy volunteers who have no conscience.

Need to actually consider applications that don’t 100% fit if that’s what’s best for the animals. Ridiculous

A shame they have a very poor view on the best for a dog in their care. Rejected for my dog being unneutered for a medical condition, that they were made aware of. Even stated we would once she had her next season. But vet advice clearly means nothing. I’m sure there isn’t many family’s who are willing to take on a dog with medical issues.

Rude, refuse to accept there is an ongoing culture issue with problematic volunteers

I've adopted dogs from two different rescue centres. I have never had the experience that I'll share now. Completed an application. All fine. Received a phone call to ask that I visit the dog with my dog that week. Again, all fine. Was sent an email re doing a home review over video. There was something off about the tone of the email, but I chose to ignore that. It said they would be in touch within 48 hours from a mobile. If I didn't answer, it would be assumed that I was no longer interested. Oooookay. They phoned the next day asking me to the review. I work from home and explained that I couldn't do the review straight away as I WAS AT WORK. I offered to send it in 2 days time. The woman was very rude to me. 'But you work from home?' Yes I do. I WORK from home. The conversation continued and her tone was so odd and weird. Like she HATED me. There was no agreement made on when I would send the video, there was no goodbye, but I could hear her still talking. I assumed that she was talking to me. I very quickly realised that she was moaning about me to a colleague. I had spoken to her for 2-3 mins. She hung up after 9 minutes. She said to her colleague "she says she works from home but she can't do the video yet, yeah right" This went on and on and on. She didn't realise that I could hear her. I phoned the centre and a man apologised to me and asked me to email them with what happened. I did this and expected to hear back. I didn't hear anything. I phoned again. I was very upset...my integrity had been undermined and questioned. My professionalism was utterly ignored. After phoning a 2nd time, I received a call from the home check manager,Billie who,for some reason, deemed it important to tell me she was from Essex. She spent probably 10 minutes speaking in doubletalk. "It's not your fault at all and the woman you spoke to is a great volunteer and drives the foster dogs and it's a really stressful environment and potential adopters lie about their homes and try and hide flaws in fencing etc but it's not your fault but she's been a volunteer for years. Etc etc" No responsibility was taken at all. "Sometimes potential adopters butt heads with the volunteers"...proceeds to give me examples of this. I explained that I didn't have the chance to butt heads, she was rude from the start. All I needed to be told was "This was unprofessional, unacceptable behaviour and we will provide training for this volunteer on customer service." What I actually got was a load of excuses for her behaviour whilst simultaneously saying it wasn't my fault. She obviously didn't mean it. Before this call, I looked up reviews and like me, you will see that rudeness is a persistent problem with this charity. I decided that the experience was too negative for me to continue with the adoption. I had been so upset that I'd been in tears. To be spoken to the way I was and then to hear her bitching about me to then this call from a manager who is also a trustee telling me that I need to move past this as others had, was enough. I absolutely do NOT recommend this charity at all. They also charge almost double for a dog than any other rescue centre: £425.00 adoption fee per dog. I looked their finances up too. Hmmm. Rudeness is an issue and instead of solutions, I was presented with REASONS for the rudeness. I don't care if you volunteer or are paid, you do not treat someone that way. There were zero consequences given to this volunteer which is why the problem continues. The way they view potential adopters is disgusting. Never will adopt from them.

Inconsiderate decision scuppered my adoption.submitted an application to adopt a…

I submitted an application to adopt a bonded pair of Maltese dogs age 4 & 6. I'm an experienced dog owner but lost my Westie aged 16 in February. Desperately wanted 2 similar type dogs so was thrilled when these came up. The home check did not go well. They wanted a padlock on my side gate which wasn't very practical as the postman uses it to put parcels by the back door. Then there was a tiny gap between my shed and the back fence which I had to block up, even though the whole shed and fencing is being replaced in 2 weeks time. I even sent them a copy of my fencing quote. Then they quibbled about a gap between my gate and next doors building - not a lot I can do about that as it is my neighbours gap not mine! Finally I was approved and bought new bedding, collars, name tags, leads, toys, food etc. Due to collect today Friday 11th July but late last night my mother was admitted to hospital as an emergency with a ruptured gallbladder requiring surgery. Clearly I was not going to be able to do an 8 hour round trip to Wales to collect the dogs as I needed to be with my 91 year old mother. I messaged them straight away ( no answer on phones) asking for a few days leeway (3 days) until my mother was out of hospital and they came back to say that they wouldn't agree and put them back up for adoption. Rules state you have to pick up within 7 days. They'd even made the dogs available again before they replied to me. No consideration that this was upsetting for me- not just having my Mum in hospital, but losing the dogs I'd set my heart on. It was more about how inconvenient it was for them. By the time they process another application, grill someone else on their home check and agree a collection it's likely they would have had to keep the dogs another 7 days instead of the 3 I was proposing. I will look for other dogs once Mum is on the mend but one thing is for certain - it won't be through Many Tears. Laudable their work may be but they need to seriously look at how they treat prospective adopters. Not everyone is a time waster - some of us genuinely needed some leeway. 27/07/25 As a follow up to this I have discovered that ,whilst these 2 were advertised as a bonded pair and needed to be rehomed together, they have now been adopted separately. Imagine the trauma these dogs are going through when I could have kept both of them together?

Disappointed by My Experience

Disappointed by My Experience I’m genuinely saddened and frustrated by my experience with this rescue centre. I completed the application in full, honestly disclosing my circumstances and offering a loving, secure home for a dog. I live in a beautiful rural area with plenty of space and have a lifetime of experience caring for dogs. Despite this, I was met with what felt like judgement, intrusive questioning, and assumptions that didn’t reflect my reality. While I fully understand and support the need for thorough checks to ensure dogs are rehomed responsibly, the tone of communication was unnecessarily negative and dismissive. No home check was even carried out before conclusions were drawn. It felt as if nothing I could offer would be considered “good enough,” which is incredibly discouraging—not just for me, but for anyone in a position to provide a safe, loving home to a dog in need. I also noticed others on this platform sharing similar experiences—genuine adopters being turned away without clear reasons. Sadly, it gives the impression that rehoming isn’t the true priority, especially when combined with constant appeals for donations and emotional pleas about the animals’ suffering. It makes me question where the breakdown really lies in getting these animals into homes. The communication I received felt unnecessarily rude and judgmental. I sincerely hope the dogs in their care eventually find the homes they deserve—but based on my experience, I would advise others to consider this carefully before investing their time, emotions, or any effort . Not sure on some of these positive reviews !!
