So far it’s amazing!!!!

Absolutely amazing service so far. Ordered Xmas dinner for four back in November to be delivered 14/12. 2 days before delivery we changed our minds about venue so I phoned Donald Russell and asked to change delivery address, very nice lady did as requested and on the day I was kept informed of delivery process and given a one hour delivery window. Perfect communication step by step. Food looks great so will update review after Xmas day but excellent service so far!!!

Excellent products

Everything I ordered has been excellent. Really good quality. Very impressed with the standards of the food. The Cod was one of the best pieces of fish I have had in many years. Another order already placed.

Beef 5 Bone In Beef Roast

Bought the beef 5 bone in rib roast, it weighed 5.6kg so cut it into two and put one back in the freezer. It was cooked as per the instructions and used a meat thermometer. We were all somewhat disappointed, it was not particularly tender and had quite a bit of sinew in it. It was not a patch on a similar joint I bought a year ago from a small independent butchers in South Manchester, I don't think I will buy from Donald Russell again. At least as a new customer I got a 20% discount and free delivery.

Amazing customer service and product

I recently made 2 orders with Donald Russell after being told about them by a friend. My first order went through with no hitches. My second order was delayed by the courier ( probably due to the storm) and arrived 2 days later defrosted. I called them and was offered a replacement of all items in the order instantly. Amazing customer service and product and will be ordering again! Thank you so much for the assistance and replacement

Delivery didn't arrive on time

Edited the original review as most likely should have been a review aimed at FedEx. Order never came on the day that was scheduled. Messed up our plans somewhat and unfortunately we couldn't take delivery of the items the next day as we were away. It is what it is, these things happen, they have emailed to offer a refund.

Excellent response to delivery problem…

I ordered 2 wellingtons and 2 chicken crowns with extras for the family Xmas dinner. Unfortunately, the delivery was delayed - courier's fault not DR, so the food was well on the way to being defrosted when it arrived. I took some temperatures and informed DR who immediately offered to replace the goods. What great service!

The service was good but crackling non existent

The service was good, meat arrived on time. I thought for the price even with the promo reductions was expensive when I saw how small the joints were. I was rather disappointed with the pork 'crackling' shoulder joint only 500 g and meat was OK slighty too much connective tissue between morsels of meat , but though I tried hard and even ended up grilling the rind the rind to try and crisp it,didn't crackle at all. Taking the rind off the meat and tying it onto another piece of pork doesn't make at all for good crackling, so disappointed about that. It had no fat left under the skin at all, only the skin, so that's why its almost impossible to get it to bubble up and crackle. I normally have few problems getting pork crackling from my pork joints. Rather a miss especially when you take in the expense of buying in the first place. Won't be buying pork crackling again from DR.

Delivery was quick but the driver left…

Delivery was quick but the driver left it on the front door without advising he’d done so. The butchers / steak box were both tasty and quality and very much enjoyed. Still have a few items left to enjoy! 😋

Very poor customer service.

Our first ever order arrived in an oversized polystyrene container, just two thin sheets of bubble wrap to protect the contents, which was clearly insufficient. One item was missing and of the others, four of the six containers had burst open. I had to gather the contents into the only plastic tubs I could find to store in the freezer. I phoned customer service and they were apologetic and offered to credit us for the missing item, as well as additional credit for the damaged packaging. The credit did not appear on our online account, so I emailed and they replied that the credit would be added to our next order. I emailed back asking how much credit was owing, as due to our poor initial experience, I was reluctant to place another order. I asked for a credit refund. I have heard nothing back in the two weeks since. Terrible customer service!

Avoid if you can

First order great. Second order a waste of money. Apparently there were issues with the carrier. Not my problem. So the goods will now arrive unfrozen after 48 hours and all you could do was blame DHL. Clearly you don’t think through a customer lens when we have waited in all day for the order. No way will you be getting another order. 1013885931 Order number

I have been a customer of Donald…

I have been a customer of Donald Russell for many years.. not a monthly purchaser but someone who dips in and out of the website. I have not had cause to complain before apart from an issue with the delivery company which was resolved straight away and not DR's fault. So, having recently purchased a kg sirloin roast I was expecting it to be excellent when friends came round for lunch last Sunday. It wasn't ! It was tough, immediately noticeable when carving, despite having followed the instructions to rest before cooking and after cooking. It resembled topside rather than sirloin. So cross was I that Sunday evening I sent an email off to the customer service department and received an automated reply telling me they would be in contact on Monday when they reopened. I received a call on Tuesday. Result, not happy.... offered refund for the cost of the joint but no more and asked that it be taken to the next level of seniority. We are now Saturday and still no contact.. could it be the complaints department are experiencing a high level of complaints ?

Miss leading advertising

I have recently tried to be removed from the mailing list but without success. I responded to an offer which stated if I spent £100 postage would be free, I thought that’s great. I ordered over £100 of butchered meet and it continued to charge me £12 postage! I was then advised this was because of my postcode and because I live on an island. As it happens I don’t live on an island. I have found the delivery dates have never been consistent in the past and meet has been delivered on these days making it difficult to plan to receive orders. I have had better steaks they are very small when bought as part of a deal. It’s a shame they do not take feedback into consideration or they could be a great on line butcher service. I have taken my custom else where, I cannot stand being offered a bargain delivery then having it taken away for no valid reason very misleading advertising.

I recently purchased two Chateaubriand…

I recently purchased two Chateaubriand Steak Joints from Donald Russell as they were a good offer, I followed the cooking instructions and had them with a Peppercorn Sauce, they were so tender and flavoursome I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again.

Ribeye steaks

The offer on six ribeye steaks was a good deal on paper but to be honest it's the worst ribeye I've ever had. Very gristley. I've been using donald Russell for years and usually very good but will be going elsewhere for ribeye in future as I do enjoy a good ribeye.
