Have been using Donald Russell for about 9 months. In that time I’ve had 4 or 5 different orders of beef, poultry, game,ready meals and desserts, all of which were top quality. All meats were well butchered with excess fat and grizzle removed. They may cost slightly more than the supermarket but worth every penny.only once did the courier fail to arrive on the day chosen but arrived the next day, due to this 2 desserts were beginning to defrost. The customer service staff couldn’t be more helpful and sent 2 complimentary desserts with my next order. Now I order to fill my freezer and reorder when freezer is almost empty.
We decided to push the boat out and buy celebration BBQ food from Donald Russell and we was pleased with the introductory offer. We chose the day before the BBQ for the delivery Saturday so we could keep the meat cold in the packaging until Sunday. However delivery was cancelled by the courier over email half hour before it was scheduled. And 1 minute before their customer service closed for the bank holiday weekend (conveniently). The new delivery was set as Tuesday. Two days after we needed it. We had to rush out trying to buy lots of BBQ meat at really short notice! On Monday Donald Russell opened so we could speak to someone. The staff member apologised and offered a replacement or refund. We opted for a refund as we didn't require such a large amount of BBQ food now. The courier company stilled turned up Tuesday despite us being assured this would be cancelled. Then we received an email which stated order had been delivered. It had in fact been turned away. Most disappointing was that we didn't really get any apology for having to quickly go and buy replacement meat at very short notice. It would have been a nice gesture to offer something complimentary for such a bad customer experience.
My first order made on September 4th for specific delivery today (dinner party). Told meat would come via DHL by 8pm latest. Just past 8pm I get message to say now deliver tomorrow. Very very poor and somewhere in DHL world there is meat lying in a box, whilst we had to get take away. Never again!!! Update:- Donald Russell (DR) did not even bother ringing me or answering my e mails (apart from auto responses) and I have now had to ring them myself (11 a.m). Promised a call from customer services (CS). Called again at 12 as no CS call as of yet, said that I wanted to sort my refund out. Promised call from CS. Now 1 pm, no call yet - These guys don’t care and just seem to think it’s fine that it’ll come today (well, we’ll have to wait and see for that), despite it getting to DHL Weds a.m (don’t even know when it left DR. I have remained calm & polite in all my calls to DR. Finally called back at 1.30 pm (Laura) and refund agreed. Pleasant and apologetic but offered nothing to change my view of this company, back to my original online meat delivery for me. Apologies, final update. I suggested (they didn’t) that for my time and disappointment, they might like to compensate me to encourage me to shop with them again. They have. £10 😂😂😂. Just about sums them up. A day and a half wait, a cancelled dinner party and £10 😂😂😂 Final bit, I promise……. Well, that was a surprise. Woke up this morning (Saturday) to a big upside down box of half defrosted meat outside my front door. Delivery time was 23:25 (pic below) whilst I was tucked up in bed but no knock or call given. Contents now in bin. What a waste and the lesson is - COMMUNICATION!!!!! Please take note DHL and Donald Russell as a lot of this could have been avoided. END!!!
Have bought 3 batches of food from here (£300+) Some stuff is decent, but most is very over priced for what it is. Quality has been worse with each delivery. Some of the food was partially defrosted upon delivery of last batch. They used ice bags rather than the dry ice that had been used for previous, maybe this contributed to the defrosting. Very unlikely to use again Update Jan 2025. I tried them again and the food was a bit better. I don't believe the quality is as good as it was originally, however there were numerous deals within my order so the price was very good, so I can't complain. The packaging was different in the new batch and this seems to be better as every thing was well frozen Customer service is great. Well done.
Meat is okay apart from the specials which aren’t up to scratch. However if you buy from them they will send two emails every single day and once a month a leaflet through the post and just won’t stop even if you ask them. Never use them again because of this.
These guys are just on the ball! Everything arrives on time and so immaculately intact and solidly frozen that I can’t find a fault. I came to DR because I was so completely fed up with the quality of the meat and the quality of the butchery at our local supermarkets. Now I can’t see me ever looking back. Thank-you for your great customer service too…. Everything just runs smoothly
Absolute perfection. Meat so tender it melts in the mouth. Not cheap but if you want quality you got to pay for it. (Bit like choosing to shop between Waitrose and Lidl) The meat here is nothing but quality. You won't find better, Anywhere. Eat your heart out Harrods
I ordered 4 x 28 day rib eye steaks at £60, along with a gammon joint. The rib eye steaks that arrived looked very small and not at all appealing. We had 2 for dinner tonight and they were tough and gristly and not at all pleasant. Won't be ordering again.
Apple & Gooseberry Crumble Tart, 140gMy mother and I had one each for pudding today. They were lovely, but far to sweet. We have to watch our sugar intake and these were like a sugar bomb. I always work on the theory that you can add sugar if you find it not sweet enough to your liking, but you cannot take the sugar out. This is surprising with Donald Russell as most manufactures try to reduce the quantity of sugar in food. minus 2 = 3* rating
Had a delivery issue due to roadworks and delivery company wanted to push this back until after the bank holiday weekend. Not ideal especially when it's a meat order and was meant for a special anniversary meal. Got in touch with Donald Russell and Laura was just amazing. Sorted out the redelivery with the couriers and kept in touch to make sure everything went well. Food looks amazing and can't wait to try it. Definitely level 4 service
I’ve bought from Donald Russel for years off and on. Products are better than supermarkets apart from steaks where Lidl 36 dry aged are far superior On a recent order, my last ever, I had some wagu burgers. Not fit for consumption. I griddled without extra oil and the griddle was swimming in rendered fat. I poured it off and from each 160gm burger I had 40 gm of pure fat. I sent a complaint to them with photos and whilst acknowledged I’m still awaiting satisfaction. I could waste time holding on their call centre line but life’s to short. Shocking customer service and at best average products. Far better options out there. In my opinion I would strongly advise you avoid them.
I can always rely on Donald Russell to provide top quality products. Arrived well packaged, frozen and within time stated. Would recommend the sausage rolls & alpine chips - fantastic combination for an easy tea.
I ordered the pasta evangelist Donald Russell meat box from you and I would like to say my son is enjoying the meat very very much ,he is on the rib eye steak tonight , already had 1 gammon which was a little bit salty but hopefully the other one should be ok.
I H ave,nt ordered from Donald Russell In a very long time,but always remember the high quality of the meat.So thought I would order again.I had ordered amongst. Other things a cottage pie well!! It tasted fine& the seasoning was just right,but oh!dear!me!It was sludge,I had to put it into bowls & change knife and fork for a spoon,the mince was just gravy and what little mash had just soaked into the gravy,not really sure what you would call it(cottage pie soup)rather disappointed to say the least.

Items arrived still frozen (I hope!), and put them into my freezer without delay. Quality, as always, is excellent, and the portions are generous. I shall continue to buy from Donald Russell.
Delivery service was impeccable and the food was out of this world - will certainly be ordering again once we have eaten our first order - would recommend this Donald Russell without a doubt!
We’ve had several orders, all well packed, well insulated and well cooled despite a 600 mile journey. I find the website odd as when you scroll down it’s quite jerky and when you think you’ve scrolled to the bottom another section suddenly shows up. (using an ipad.) It’s generally good value for money with plenty offers, plenty choice and the produce quality is good. There is no nitrite free bacon or chorizos so I get mine at Waitrose. We haven’t liked the desserts we’ve tried finding them a bit too sweet. The best bargain we’ve found are the stock bones. They are great value for money and keep the dog happy for days on end.
