Non-delivery of Browns giftcards

This is about the Browns giftcard service. When I queried non-delivery I received an automatic reply stating that there was a problem with dispatch - but cards ordered before 8 December would be dispatched by the 13th. Since I placed my order after the 8th it is highly unlikely that my card will arrive in time for Christmas. The really annoying thing is that they've been aware of this problem since Black Friday (26 November). If they'd posted this information on their website I could, I suppose (they do not cover this point in their email) have avoided the delay by ordering an e-card rather than a postal one. My advice? If you're thinking of treating someone to a meal at Browns, remember that their meal could be a very long time coming. Oh yes, and if you're waiting for a reply to your email expect to twiddle your thumbs for 10 days. They do not give a central phone number - only those of their restaurants - neither do they have an instant chat option. Update. Was given the central phone number by a very helpful person at Browns Bristol. It is: 0121 4984000. But automated message just gives same information as in automated email. You can leave a message but won't get through to a real live person. Final update. The giftcard has now arrived. Thank you Browns - but what a trying few days you've given me.

Birthday night at browns Bristol

Birthday night at browns Bristol. Very disappointing. Firstly sat in area above bar where there was a horrid smell of sewage. Left there and wondered when someone was going to show us to our table but noone came. Then a member in black shouted at us that we should sit at our table as the kitchen was closing. Food portions small. After main course same women came over and shouted that if we wanted desert we had to order now as closing soon. Then really loud industrial vacuum started behind bar near us. When asked did they need to be vacuuming when we were eating were told there was a leak behind the bar and they had to do it now. Sewerage smell? I complained to women in black about the way she spoke to us she apologised and gave us free coffee. She also said that the person waiting on us had already gone home so forgot to ask us for dessert. Felt they wanted us out so staff could leave work. Overprised. Also went to bar to order a southern comfort and was told to sit down and it will be bought over. Single shot in half pint glass full to top with ice and lemonade which you don't do. Didn't ask how I wanted it which would have been with no ice and little lemonade

Hugely disappointed - Browns Oxford

Hugely disappointed. I had quite the most disgusting meal at Browns in Oxford. My first course at £10.95 was 3 tiny shrivelled scallops which were luke warm and tasteless. Then my main was a BURNT and overcooked fish pie served with bullet peas (ie overcooked as well). This was such a disappointing meal. Our seating was at 7.45pm and it was NOT busy - so there are no excuses there and it wasn't a busy time of year. I wanted to give Browns the chance to respond so wrote a letter detailing my experience. They haven't had the decency to reply. We will certainly never go here again. The meal was exceedingly expensive and not worth one bit of the food that I had. There are masses of places to go in Oxford - I would certainly avoid this one.

Browns - Butlers Wharf

Browns at Butlers Wharf is really my local restaurant and I am a regular visitor. The team there are probably the friendliest and most accommodating group of people I’ve ever come across. I visit regularly with my disabled partner and my elderly father and we always get the best service from staff who always take time to acknowledge us and ensure we are well looked after. The new refit is excellent which adds to the experience.

Shopping in York yesterday

Shopping in York yesterday went to Browns for coffee and lunch restaurant busy but manageress found us a table and explained food service delays of 20-30 mins. we expected that as York is busy more so over Christmas period. Coffee was promptly served and food order taken however over one hour later food arrived with sincere apologies, we could see and hear her explaining to new customers about the delays and many people not willing to wait. The food was good and manageress said meal and coffee was on the house as we had been patient. She had remained exceptionally calm and polite throughout and we would continue to use this restaurant.

A very enjoyable experience

A little bit shocked at some of these reviews! We booked for Sunday lunch at Browns Milton Keynes, as a pianist was advertised and we can't speak highly enough of both the service and food. We were seated on arrival and very soon served with a drink (my husband was offered a taste of wine before ordering). We ordered the Sunday roast and the food was excellent. The staff were attentive and friendly and the pianist was icing on the cake - he also came and took requests which was a great touch. Looking forward to a return visit.

Disappointed on our first meal out

We always love Browns and make for them, in any town or city where we visit. Their food, hospitality and selection of dishes and the way they are represented is always good. Unfortunately having selected what we wanted on the menu, that said they were available, we were surprised that when ordering the waitress said, nether were available. Customer service is so important to maintain and extend your customer base. It would have been such an easy fix to say what courses they did not have. either on the web or on the physical menu or tell you when you entered! Sadly, non of this was done and they did not meet or exceed customer expectation. It would have saved embarrassment and disappoinment for everyone. It's a little like saying you have petrol, when you do not. Staff must know this information before you do! For us it was a 34 mile round journey to visit.

Disappointed

We had a late lunch here today- everything we wanted from the menu was unavailable: on arrival we were advised there was no squid or sirloin steak. We ordered the rib eye steak and mozzarella ravioli. Neither were available. In fact the only steak available was the fillet ( at £25) and the alternative to the ravioli was a bland courgette / linguini dish. Neither of the desserts we ordered were available either. In fact there were lots of dishes " off" the menu. On review of other reviews the ravioli was nt available in September! For the cost of the food, the added 10% service charge and the recommendations we received we expected better

Don't book a bottomless brunch, awful

This was the first time I have visited this establishment and I think it is a disappointment. I don't usually review places but I feel the need to warn people and the community about this place. My wife works at the University of Cambridge; she was excited to tell me how much her co-workers loved the place, so I decided to surprise her for her 40th birthday. Imagine! A woman's 40th birthday is a big deal, right? so I decided to book a bottomless brunch for her and her friends, now I regret it very much. (All her friends come for different part of the world London, Spain, New Zealand, Mexico, Bratislava) We were served by a drunk Hungarian waitress, (not joking), in a span of 3 hours they served 4 to 5 drinks to each of us, (bottomless? I don't think so); who then dared to comment to my wife that the waiters and the blond useless bar manager, that we had already had too much to drink. The food was average to bad, the arrogance of the restaurant managers ended our horrible evening, as none of them turned up other than to charge me a total of 400 pounds tip (service included, obviously XD) for the worst service of my life, not just in the UK but of any other country I have ever visited. The truth is that I found the treatment a bit unfriendly and a bit racially offensive. Fortunately Cambridge is a great city and it all came together when we went punting and then to the ska festival. I hope you have a better experience. The restaurant itself is quite nice and lovely.

It was my birthday was given a voucher as a prescent. We was realy happy picked out what we wanted and booked a table for 2.30. However when we arrived most items on the menu had been crossed out. all they had to offer for roasts was chicken or nut roast.we ended up eating fish and chips as simply was not much left to order.was nice but will not return again as was realy not worth 16.50 each. had we known previous we would have cancelled

Browns Covent Garden

We always book a table at Browns when we see a show In London but now I am a vegan I had a very bad experience and will not be doing that again. On the menu there are only two vegan mains, one a curry and the other a salad. The curry was off and so was the vegetarian option so any veggie or vegan was down to the salad. The salad is the same price as the other mains but was like something that should have been a side dish with no protein. The waiter did not offer any alternative so that's what I ended up with. Then there were two vegan desserts and only one of those was available. I paid £37 for the meal and came out hungry. As a vegan I don't mind a small menu but I do mind not having any choice and being given a salad as a main when it should have been a side dish. Very poor in this day and age and in London of all places!

Disgusting profiteering

Just come out of Brighton Ship St branch … we had just stopped for a couple of glasses of wine (1 each - one red one white) and the bill was £23.49. Absolutely disgusting profiteering and we will NEVER return. Ever.

This evening we were very disappointed…

This evening we were very disappointed by the level of service we received. The waiter was rude and very abrupt in his mannerism. This is in direct contrast to our service received less than a month ago when we visited. This resulted in us leaving after our drinks and not placing an order for food . It is sad that the conduct of one of your employees has left us writing our first review for a restaurant .

Exceptional Service - Leeds branch, Thank you!

We visited the Leeds branch of Brown’s along with other bars in the City yesterday for drinks and found the service which we received from Andy superb, the best on the day by a country mile! He got the balance just right, friendly, professional and attentive without being over the top, rare qualities, well done! He took pride in the attention to detail from ensuring that our table was sparkling clean to preparing our cocktails and made our early evening drinks experience a really enjoyable one. Thank you Andy for making a difference, keep up the great work!!

I’ve never had to write a negative…

I’ve never had to write a negative review before, but we recently visited the Browns, Windsor restaurant and the service was shocking. Our first server was great & took drinks orders straight away, but unfortunately, his shift ended 10 mins after we arrived & it was downhill from there. They weren’t busy at all & yet we waited 20 minutes to get someone to take our order for starters. When it came, the food quality was great, no issue with that at all. Only, we never got the chance to order main courses or more drinks, as we couldn’t get the attention of any of the four staff, none of whom had approached our table since we’d finished our starters. We decided to go elsewhere in the end & when I asked for the bill & she wanted to know if everything was alright,as soon as I said we were disappointed, she turned away & loudly told her colleague we weren’t happy, at which point they both walked off?! For the first time EVER in a restaurant, I refused to pay the service charge added to the bill because frankly, we didn’t get any. At no point did anyone apologise or even care what the issue had been, just took the payment & walked off.
