Booking Cancelled by Venue at Short Notice

Browns, West India Quay, London. The restaurant had been booked a month in advance for a 70th birthday celebration. 6 couples had travelled from different parts of Britain to attend. The reservation was for 12 at 20:30 on Sunday 12 May. Prior to the meal we were attending a concert. After arriving at the concert venue I got a call from the restaurant saying they were short on food, no fish and very little choice available. I asked them to text/email a list so we could take a look. I still thought we would get a meal. Just before the concert started I got an email saying our booking had been cancelled. This left us high and dry, trying to find a restaurant for a group of 12 at 21:00 on a Sunday evening. Even in London, that is a big ask on a Sunday night. We ended up eating at our hotel, sitting on separate tables. Hardly the celebration meal we had planned. It ruined the occasion. Shoddy management and a complete disrespect for customers.

Browns Beaconsfield

Browns Beaconsfield- Booked a table for 5 people for a special birthday meal. The service was very slow to take orders of drinks and food. It was very quiet only one other table dining in the restaurant area on arrival. We had to ask the waiter on 3 occasions for drink refills and still didn't get the drinks we had ordered. There was a lot of food that was on the menu that was not available to order as they had ran out. The adult main meals were very hot and nicely presented but we were disappointed with the children's pasta portion size was only 2 spoonfuls of pasta. We had to wait a long time again for desserts order and was given different flavoured desserts to what was described in the menu. We had to wait a long time to pay the bill. We was not given a breakdown of the bill costs and was just asked to tap my payment card without knowing what we were being charged. It was a shame as it was for a special birthday treat. The food was tasty but just unfortunate the service could of been better.

The original Brown’s

Not many will know or remember that Brown’s used to be an iconic restaurant. It was started by Jeremy Mogford in the 70’s with the first brasserie in Brighton. I lived there then and Brown’s was the place to be. Great atmosphere, food service and legendary chocolate cake and steak and kidney pie. Then the Oxford one came along - equally lovely. Full of energy, spilling out on to the Woodstock road, always struggled to get a table, but it was always worth it. Then more and more opened up, it got sold off to a brewery and the brand disappeared. All that atmosphere and great value became a corporate sludge of poor food, poor service, and bland decor. The Ruislip one is a travesty. There’s no Brown’s left any more. I assume Mogford is just counting his pennies but it’s a sad sign of the times.

Small portions, cold food, underwhelming

Despite the anticipation of a really special meal at Brown's Brasserie & Bar Ruislip , the reality fell short of expectations. On a recent visit for my birthday, my partner and I opted for the Prawn & Devon Crab linguine. However, upon its arrival, we were dismayed to find that the portion size was inadequate for a main course, and to make matters worse, it was not hot. Even after requesting it to be reheated, the dish remained underwhelming. Considering the hefty price tag of £18 each, coupled with a mandatory 10% service charge, the minuscule portion size felt like a slap in the face, especially given the purported inclusion of Devon Crab, which was virtually non-existent. The presence of a few prawns did little to salvage the situation. While the ambiance and décor of the Brasserie were commendable, and the service satisfactory, these positives ultimately paled in comparison to the disappointing quality of the food. Regrettably, this experience has left me with no desire to return, as it represented a significant lack of value for money.

A lovely meal and great service.

Visited Browns in Cambridge last night for the first time and was very impressed. The food was lovely and cooked well, especially the steaks in the lobster surf and turf we had. They were so tender and pink. Our waiter Ultan was really friendly and made us feel incredibly welcome. Pleasant and always with a smile on his face. Yes the food was expensive, but we had a wonderful evening, even down to the virgin cocktails I was drinking as designated driver.

Browns Old Jewry City of London

Browns Old Jewry City of London Sad to read that most of the Brand doesn’t appear to make the grade, visit this one ! Enjoy a great experience, food is always hot including the plates, service is a joy, waiting time even at lunchtime is fast, I often pop in for quick lunch, haven’t been disappointed yet, in the past went there for breakfast and returned for dinner. Ask for Maria.

The Kingston -upon-Thames branch is…

The Kingston -upon-Thames branch is where we held the wedding breakfast as Afternoon tea. What a wonderful time, the staff were so attentive, checking if we had everything we needed, no problem regarding tea, coffee and prossecco and top-ups. The food was amazing, and so much of it, beautifully delivered with a lot of choices, in fact we couldn't eat it all, they offered us boxes if we wanted to take any home, but I requested that, if the staff would like to help themselves to please do so rather than let things go to waste. So a huge thank you to Brown's for making the Happy Couples day and mine, because it went without a hitch thanks to the staff at Browns

So slow.........

Service was extremely slow, to the point of us going to another local restaurant for our coffee after the meal. I have coeliac disease and was presented with an i-pad to 'click on' my allergies? Not good, in the better restaurants I've been to it's the manager who takes your order and the manager who serves you if you have a food allergy. Perhaps Brown's could take this on board.

My wife and myself visited Brown's…

My wife and myself visited Brown's Bluewater. Just before Christmas 2023. It was very busy. We asked for a area that was quiter. The man said the area we wanted to sit was drinks only. But people were eating in that area? My wife wears two hearing aids, which amplified the noise. My wife told him this. He was not interested. He just walked away. So we got up and walked out. We don't know if the man was the manager, but this sort of treatment of customers is so out of order. I know this is a bit late but people need to know how some people are treated in Brown's Bluewater. As far as we are concerned they do not deserve any stars. We can't remember the exact date. But it was just before Christmas 2023.

Covent Garden location - awful slow service

Covent Garden location - Without doubt the worst service I have had in years. We booked a table to find out on arrival it was only for 90 minutes. I wanted two courses, but it took 30 minutes to take our order. No water served. We ate very quickly when the food arrived but no time to get our second course ordered. Paying was a nightmare. Food was not what it said on the menu (and I asked several times to check what came with the burger and was told just burger, cheese and bacon). My partner got dressing which she never eats. All sorts of items not listed provided. Just a dreadful experience. Please can the menu actually say what is going to be served????

Overpriced With Truly Appalling Service!!!!!

Made the big mistake of deciding to have lunch at Browns whilst 'killing time' in the Bluewater Shopping Mall on Saturday the 30th December. After having been shown to our table by their so called 'manager' we were subsequently left unattended for some 20 minutes or so waiting for our order to be taken (whilst being totally ignored by any waiting staff we had tried to catch the attention of!) and all without even having been offered a drink! So disgusted we got up and left! When we first arrived said 'manager' asked us if we'd ever been to Browns before? Well one thing is for certain, we certainly won't ever be visiting again! Better service to be had at your local Miller & Carter!

Poor service and music too loud

St Martins Lane London. The food was excellent and all the staff polite. However, 5 waiters throughout the meal. Our original, we did not see again until we complained (first complaint) as messages passed to him on ordering did not filter to the various other people who served us later on - no continuity. The main course order arrived and was incorrect so the "cleaver" waiter, who thought he could remember everything without writing it down, got it wrong. No offer of additional sauces when mains arrived, or coffee afterwards (we declined sweet). The music was so loud it was like a night club (I have a recording). Same issue last time i was there back in May with "background music" stopping conversation. Complained to a junior manager after the meal, and he seemed to be laughing at us and said it was only on that day the sound was an issue - it was the same back in May, but all he kept saying was that he was not working there then! Several tables around us were also moaning (to each other anyway). The sound volume was up and down like a yo yo. He was not interested in us, barely apologised, did not offer any compensation or return visit, and was, to be frank, arrogant. I have been visiting this restaurant 2-3 times a year for over 25 years, and am shocked that since the refurb this year, standards have dropped so far. Appalling.

Visited Browns Bluewater on Sunday and had the pleasure of being looked after by Konrad. Very helpful, polite and attentive. Food was very good, had the eggs royale and avocado and eggs. One of our eggs wasn’t runny so Konrad rectified this straight away and also bought us over extra eggs! Thank you , we will be back.
