Not as good as it used to be

We have enjoyed going to Browns in Liverpool for a few years now, off and on. Sadly today, after not visiting for about a year, we were sadly disappointed. We sat in a draught, the service was extremely slow and our starter never arrived, even after we’d asked..then finished our mains and still no joy. Coffee came a long time before dessert and the peach dessert just looked like the ones from a tin. The food was ok but prices have shot up considerably and there is no option to opt out of leaving the hefty tip added for you to your bill. I think service should be slicker and standards as high as the wonderful cocktails they serve (these are still very good!).

Not impressed!

Visited the Manchester restaurant. We ordered drinks and then wanted to order dinner. Only then were we told there were only about 3 things available to order. None of which we would have chosen! If we had been told when we arrived we would have gone somewhere else. The reason given was that building work in the kitchen overran. Not very convincing. The food was ok and we won’t be back. The staff knew we were not impressed and offered to not charge us for the first round of drinks. Nice offer but a bit late by then.

Gross

Can smell the gents toilets as soon as you enter the restaurant. staff were awful. Couldn't have cared less. Prawn salad with no prawns was grim. The steak came out swimming around on the plate to the point it made the salad soggy. It looked disgusting and grey. it tasted like rubber. My partners food wasn't much better. undercooked potato salad. Revolting little restaurant

rank, don't bother-far better food & service elsewhwere.

rank. Dimly light table meant we had two use torches to see the rather disappointing menu, our server didn't tell us until we ordered there was no chicken salad which is basic stuff. A slow service didn't help, waited too long to pay and was not offered fresh drinks at any point during the evening. So,not great whatsoever-just very average-inadequate.

Great sunday lunch

Not the cheapest sunday lunch but probably one of the best I've had a while. As well as the lamb cottage pie. Excellent and attentive service by the well dressed staff. Great atmosphere with a piano playing in the background and an enjoyable experience.

Not proper Sourdough

I had breakfast at Bluewater and I noticed that their quality had slipped, bacon was changed for a little bit of streaky, black pudding was smaller and the bread wasn’t proper Sourdough, it looked and tasted like yeasted bread. Still nice but not as nice as it was.

Poor and this being nice

Mothers day meal today the food was poor , we got Sunday dinner toast beef. Not sure if chef cut meat or plastic surgeon it was that thin. The beef was fatty had to put in tissue it was that bad. One of sons got 12oz sirloin steak on the bone £34 it took him 5 mins to cut the fat off !! then it was like a beef burger First time and the last Seen poor reviews feedback and the general manager gives you a thanks but nothing to say sorry

Excellent hosts for my 30th birthday

Excellent hosts for my 30th birthday. They put on amazing food for everyone at a really good price and sectioned off an area of the restaurant for me and my guests. They were extremely attentive hosts and made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. Will definitely be recommending them for anyone hosting events in future. Massive thanks to all of the team for making my birthday extra special.

Sunday Roast at Browns Bluewater.

Sunday Roast at Browns Bluewater. We go for Sunday lunch regularly. The last time we went the beef was so fatty we could not eat it. It was a regular server Kevin. He said he could not replace the beef as there was no more ready. Also on this occasion the Yorkshire pudding was so crispy we could not eat that either. I was disappointed, as we are regular diners's and we left all the meat and the Yorkshire pudding. The server did not seem interested. Just said the Yorkshire puddings are always crispy and the beef can be fatty. I have complained on line twice but had no response. Very disappointing that we had no response when i took the time to complain on line. We have not been back to Browns to eat since.

First visit to Browns in Exeter by the Quay after it took over from another chain. Great free car park ( for customers) right on site which a is a great plus in Exeter! Although I’d booked our table for 3 online they had no record of this when we arrived. The straight faced front of house (needs to smile !) man found us a table anyhow. Not very welcoming start. Fortunately we had a lovely friendly young waiter HARVEY who we were very impressed with. Although only young he was very engaging and looked after us throughout our meal. We had downloaded the Brown’s app which offered us a free cocktail which was a bonus. Lots of other offers on here so worth doing. Our mains were delicious but could have been served much hotter. Overall very pleased with our first experience of Browns and will be back!

Browns Exeter. Very disappointing

Browns Exeter Food was a bit disappointing for the price. I had a chicken schnitzel with a fried egg on top. Nothing special. Well staffed and efficient service but I gradually got a bit irratated by being asked how my food was by 8 different people just when I had a mouth ful! 🥴 Ps: ran out of my favourite Creme Brulee as early as 6.35pm on a Friday evening!! Pps: Had a brownie instead. Not good, I'm afraid.🤦‍♀️ I suggest a better pastry chef? 🤔 The other thing I was put off was by an air fresher smell, like the awful smelling ones you get hanging in your car after a car wash, used to mask the cooking smells coming from the kitchen. Begs the question? Are the air extractors not effective enough in the kitchen? Or maybe use of organic fragrances would have be better..... I couldn't wait to get out in the fresh air. Shame becaus the waiting staff try really hard.

Greeted warmly by friendly staff

Greeted warmly by friendly staff, shown to our table. I have multiple allergies and our waitress was extremely good going through the menu with me. Once our food was served our waitress was great at checking to make sure everything was fine. Service above and beyond. Thank you!

Beyond Expectations

Visited Brown's in Manchester for a pre-theatre meal on New Year's Day. First was the range of choice that despite my dietary requirements, did not make me feel that I was missing out. Food was excellent, with portions just the right size to leave you satisfied but not stuffed. However, the prompt for this review was not the food, but the outstanding service. The restaurant was busier than expected considering the date (and the atrocious weather) but drinks and meals were still delivered promptly. All the serving staff were young, attentive and positively beaming. It is a shame that such is the general state of hospitality, that service with a smile is considered the exception rather than the norm. Nevertheless they made our meal a delight, and set the tone for the rest of our evening. Thank you!

First visit to the Browns in Exeter…

First visit to the Browns in Exeter since it took over from Harvester as our pre Christmas meal out and we were extremely disappointment. I’ve given it two stars simply because of our kind and polite waitress. Given menus and sat and decided food only to be told half of the food wasn’t available. Waited an age for starters to come out and really expected more for the price! Luke warm at best and not at all worth the cost. Waited another age for mains which weren’t much to right home about either, warm enough but dry chip. Waitress was decent about it but given 50% off was a saving grace! Apparently the head of kitchen left after only 4weeks, explains a lots. We enjoyed our cheap and cheerful and value for money Harvester way better. Won’t be back sadly and wouldn’t recommend either.
