Review summary

Travel Insurance Direct receives a mix of feedback from customers, with a significant number praising the ease of the claims process and the affordability of their policies. Many reviewers highlight their positive experiences, noting that claims are paid quickly and without hassle, which reinforces the company's reputation for reliability. However, a notable portion of consumers express frustration regarding coverage limitations, particularly concerning flight cancellations and the handling of claims related to unforeseen circumstances like illness or COVID-19. Complaints about poor customer service and delays in processing claims are also prevalent, with some customers feeling that the company does not honor its commitments.

Cheaper and easier

It was quite easy to get an insurance. There is an app on my iphone for this and this app provided useful information to the country that I was travelling to. 2 thumbs up. By the way, I'm a repeat customer.

Great value and great support if you need to make a claim

All insurances are the same until it comes time to make a claim. I have found them to be very cost effective, and have been with them for almost 10 years. On a recent trip, I needed to make a claim, which was my first. Couldn't have been easier, did it all online, and it was approved and paid with 10 days! Will be sticking with TID when I travel

Great value policies

Have used TID for more than 10 years now and they offer the best value for a travel policy. Excellent customer service also when we had to make a claim after my wife fell ill in Thailand.

Great Insurance Rate

This was my first time with this Insurance Company - many pluses - great rate - way lower than everyone else. Good easy to understand web site. Great communication in emails. For Australia, Timor Leste, Singapore and Thailand the entire 21 day Insurance was a mere $125.00. Check it out !!!

excellent cover service and price

I always take out my insurance through your company. I never have to worry about anything knowing that I am covered if something goes wrong. I make sure all my children use your company because as a parent I know if I cant be there to look after them that your company will be there. The peace of mind knowing this is all worthwhile. Thanks for protecting my family.

Simple, easy and reasonably priced.

Recently used TID for a family holiday to the UK. Getting the insurance was quick and easy and the entire process was quick and the prices very reasonable. We had no problems on the trip so no need to draw on the insurance but it was great knowing it was there.

Easiest travel insurance to obtain online

I've used TID for a few years now and I'll continue to use them and recommend them to my friends and family as the price is right and the process couldn't be easier.

Bali volcanic ash cloud

Getting information was near on impossible, but your web site told us that our insurance policy would cover us for accommodation and expenses incurred if we were stranded in Bali and also advised us regarding getting receipts for expenditure. This info was comforting given the stress of possibly being stranded. We were very lucky to get out of Bali on our scheduled flight on Airasia 9am Sunday 12th July, but many others were not so lucky.

Very good overall

So far we haven't had to raise any claim, therefore, I can't comment on the claim process. There was one thing I'd like to add which was before leaving on our trip recently, I asked a question via "Contact Us' through an email address. I was disappointed that I didn't get an answer or acknowledgement from TID. We have been using TID for many trips over the past few years and it seems fine and generally the premium is reasonable.

Competitive prices and exceptional customer service!

I've travelled a couple of times with TID insurance. Fortunately I haven't had to make a claim, but having piece of mind if something did go wrong is great. The TID mobile app is a great travel accessory, providing details on your travel destination and great travel tips even for those of us that are well travelled. I would highly recommend TID for your travel insurance needs.

Great trip notes

Have used TID for our last two trips, love their trip notes and travel information. We can't give 5 stars is because thankfully we haven't had to make a claim, so not sure how they are with that process.

No fuss travel insurance.

TID was easy to buy online. Documentation was simple and instructions on the carrying of relevant paperwork was clear and sensible. Other travel advise was offered. Cost was reasonable (in fact, cheaper than 4 other companies that quoted on the same dates and location). Luckily I had no need to claim anything, so I can't comment on the quality of that aspect! Will definitely request a quote next time I travel.

Unfortunate experience with poor customer service

A family trip to NZ took a turn for the worse with Dunedin Airport closing due to snow and ice. Our flight home was cancelled and the airline booked us on the next available flight which was Dunedin-Christchurch the following day with a connection home from Christchurch to Australia the next morning. This was not how we hoped to get home with a 6-month-old and my mother in two. It was far from convenient. I rang TID and the person I spoke to was far from empathetic. A quick google of the weather in Dunedin would have shown her our predicament was in fact true. She advise that we needed to stay in a similar standard of accommodation. I then asked how much TID would cover. Her answer was not what I wanted to hear - $200 per each 12 hours of delay. That wouldn't be enough. I asked if that was per person or for our group. She seemed put out to have to find that out. Finally she came back with 'per group'. I then explained that with four people (three people and a baby) it was near impossible to find something under $200 unless it was a backpackers. So I was told to look on AirBNB!!! Stay at a strangers house with a little baby. Good one. That was one of the most ridiculous and irresponsible things I have ever heard from an insurance company. While I am sure that most people on AirBNB are decent, I didn't want to stay with a stranger with a young child. I explained that my mother had a separate policy with TID to which she said that we then probably had two separate amounts to work with. So I booked the same apartment we'd been staying in (the same room number so it was most definitely of a 'similar standard' as first instructed). The conversation didn't really get much better as this individual just didn't really care that we were stranded at the airport in the snow without transport or any sensible way of getting home. I don't know whether she expected us to get a bus back into town but I didn't even bother asking any further questions at that point as I was still desperately trying to re-book our flights all the way home the following day (so we didn't end up with the same problem the next day). So I hired another car (which is how we had been travelling the entire holiday) and figured I would deal with it later. Thankfully we were able to get all the way home the day after the cancelled flight. I have yet to fill in my claims form as I have to now wait until the accommodation 'splits the bill' so that we can lodge separate claims. This seems totally and utterly ridiculous in this day and age. I was #justaTID unhappy with this phone call and I do hope that other people who need to make claims through TID get treated a little bit better. If this person was sitting in front of a computer I am sure it would have taken very little time for her to search and get a bit of an understanding of the situation. Instead we were treated as if we were not telling the truth and as if our dilemma was an inconvenience to her. It was certainly not our intent to be stranded an extra day and the list of subsequent inconveniences caused by our flight delay is much longer than the insurance company needs to know about (i.e. cost involved in extending the car parking at our Australian airport, lengthy transit times, getting home much later in the evening than we had planned, arranging emergency dog sitting/feeding etc).

Trouble free experience with TID. Did not need to make a claim, but plenty of information sent to me from the company before and after trip. No complaints at all and will use them again.
