Wouldn’t go again
Went here on a day off expecting to relax and left more stressed than when I arrived. Nice staff but Management of the building and changing areas is not up to standard considering the price!

This is the first review I have ever left, which is not something I thought I would do, but the overall experience was poor enough that I felt it was worth warning other people. I am leaving this review mainly as a warning to anyone thinking of joining Hale Country Club on a fixed-term membership. I received communication about a membership price increase and wanted to clarify how it applied to my existing fixed-term agreement. My position was simple from the start: I understood that I had signed a fixed-term contract, and if the club honoured the original agreed rate of £175 per month until the end of that contract, then I was prepared to continue on that basis and let the membership end at the correct time. What I did not agree to was being asked to enter into a new 12-month commitment just to keep the original rate during my existing contract period. What should have been a straightforward query turned into a long, frustrating chain of inconsistent emails. At different points, I was told: • that my agreement remained unchanged; • that the £175 monthly rate would be honoured for the remainder of my contract; • then that I would only keep that rate if I signed a new 12-month commitment; • and then later that no new 12-month contract was actually required after all. I was also told that their system would otherwise default my membership to £200 per month, and that they would need to manually adjust it to £175 each month. That may be their internal system issue, but it should have been dealt with properly and explained clearly from the start instead of being passed back and forth in contradictory emails. In the end, the matter was only resolved after repeated back-and-forth, with the club finally confirming in writing that my original rate would be honoured until the end of my contract, that I did not need to sign any new 12-month commitment, and that my membership would then end with no continuation beyond that point. To be fair, I did sign up to a fixed-term contract, so I accept that part. My issue is not simply that I was held to the contract. My issue is how difficult and unnecessarily confusing the membership process became when I tried to get a clear answer and arrange for the membership to end properly. What made it more frustrating is that the price increase was presented in the context of improvements to the club, yet in my own experience basic maintenance issues were still not being dealt with consistently. For example, the bubble massage chairs were rarely both working properly at the same time. The herbal sauna / herbal room was often difficult to tell whether it was even on. I also found the steam room door regularly did not shut properly unless it was slammed, which I was not comfortable doing given that it is glass, and I even saw people using a wet towel to try to keep it closed. As for the club itself, in my opinion the spa is nice enough, but it is nothing particularly special beyond being in a more premium area. For me personally, the overall experience no longer justified continuing to use it, and I reached the point where I did not even want to go anymore. My advice to anyone considering joining is to read the membership terms very carefully and be aware that if you join on a fixed-term membership, you may find the administration, communication, and exit process far more difficult than it should be. The club needs to improve its membership administration, communication, and handling of straightforward member queries, because that side of the experience reflects badly on the business.
Visited Hale Country Club and Spa yesterday, was very impressed with a member of staff called Liberty, what a lovely young lady, I was greeted in a friendly and professional manner, she was very helpful and informative, she really cheered my day up ! Well done Hale & Country Spa for recruiting such lovely staff.
I’ve been holding off writing this review as the spa area at Hale Country Club is the only positive, and there are a few lovely PTs and staff (special shout-out to the friendly security guard). However, after being a member for 10 months, I feel I have no choice but to share my experience. Which is poor. When I signed up, I was told during my induction that the price would remain fixed at £165 for the duration of my 12-month contract. Halfway through, this was increased to £175 without proper explanation, and when I raised my concerns, they were completely disregarded. It became very clear that customer service is not a priority—profit is. The membership doesn't include access to the Padel courts, which adds even more to an already expensive monthly cost. Gym classes are incredibly difficult to book, and on several occasions, I’ve arrived on time only to be turned away for not being “early enough. Lisa Jones is incredibly rude and unwelcoming. The atmosphere overall is cold and unwelcoming. I’ve been a member of several gyms across Cheshire and Manchester, and unfortunately, this is by far the most unfriendly I’ve experienced. It really doesn't live up to the premium image it tries to project. The changing rooms and drains stink of egg. The spa is the one saving grace. Save your money and join somewhere a lot more friendly
I visited the spa today Wednesday 16th. April. I have never been to any spa before. A friend had bought me a voucher as a gift. The whole experience was very enjoyable. All the staff are friendly and happy to help. I had a full body massage, use of the swimming pool, sauna, hot tub and steam room. I went alone but I didn't feel lonely. Chloe was my masseuse, she was totally professional and lovely in exactly the right amount. I would recommend Hale Country Club spa to anyone. I definitely want another visit and will be asking family for money for my birthday and Christmas presents so I can return. Thank you.
Submitted an enquiry to potentially join the gym. Got a snooty reply from the receptionist asking to me to fill out a form which I did straight away and returned. Heard nothing for 4 days so i followed up again today. Received a couple of snooty and passive aggressive emails from the membership team saying i have to wait 2-4 weeks for a response. How on earth am i meant to know that unless someone acknowledges my email? Looking at the reviews on here it seems that rude staff is a common occurance at this place. Terrible service for the money paid.
me and my partner booked for a treat after the chirstmas rush as we don't get much time alone away from the children so we was really looking forwards to it. Got there the lady behind the desk said we needed id we shown her it on our phone she said they needed the physical card, for what reason I still don't know. we've been to many spas we have never ever needed to show id never mind a physical card. we couldn't attend due to this even after explaining we had travelled and it was the only chance we could of had. we left disappointed. they said they would call us back and did not we had to call them back to rearrange they then was very rude on the phone dispite us being polite and refused to book us back in because apparently they had no availability for two weeks which I know is a lie as we booked in so last minute. disgusting customer service never actually dealt with a ruder group of people in all my life. we managed to get in at the mere which is only 14 minutes away from here who luckily was very accomodating and we had a really nice day. DO NOT ATTEND HALE COUNTRY CLUB AND SPA THEY WILL RUIN YOUR DAY.
Absolutely disgusting the way me and my girlfriend was dealt with today! Staff were super rude at the desk to my girlfriend and unbelievably rude to myself on the phone. We have 3 children and i booked this for a treat for my girlfriend who has recently just given birth to our third child. Due to forgetting our I.D by mistake we were not aloud entry. The manager said they would call us back to re-book this did not happen, so i called today and explained the situation and the they explained they was fully booked and was persistent to refund us. Basically did not want us in there establishment. Very stuck up and rude. Never again personally i would avoid. The mere on the other hand excepted us on the same day and looked after us incredibly well. They couldn't believe the way we were treated. The MERE is 15 minutes away from Hale i would direct people to use their facility so much cheeper AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.
Rude staff!
Recently rejoined and so happy to be back!?
Made an enquiry via their website about becoming a member, no one came back to me. Appalling.
Great place always plenty of equipment available in the gym area. The spa is fabulous numerous saunas and steam rooms outdoor therapy area and pool really good. The only criticism is there are not enough classes for adults especially in the afternoons.
Been a member for 2 years and we have completely had enough now. Raising the membership fee from 105 to 120 then 140 in 4 months firstly is rather steep. I don't mind this as electricity etc has gone up but i do mind when nearly every-time I go in one of the spa facilities are broken (herbal room been out of use for months). Sauna (primary thing i use) not even sealed, constantly luke warm. When you are putting membership fees up whilst not even sealing the sauna and burning cash in front of us its a bit of a slap in the face. Staff are on constant turnover, today I ordered a coffee sat down and watched them have a debate over reality TV then when i ask again have the audacity to ask how i wanted the coffee (i've just told you and paid almost 4 quid for it). Anyway staff are young the real issue here is the management. No one seems to actually care no matter how many times you ask them to change or sort issues, there isn't another facility in the area like it therefore they have monopolised and if you don't like it your basically told you can leave - they have a waitlist. So no one will ever actually try to improve the service and give members value for money. Place is over priced, lacking luxury and needing a complete re vamp of staff and ethos.
Shocking. Came today to the club- Sunday 1pm with my children and I was informed that the restaurant and the outdoor pools and the outdoor area is closed as they are having a private party! The most unethical and most unacceptable thing I have ever seen . Raising the membership prices from 105 to £120 and then to £140 in 4 month looks it is still not enough income for the club. Named and ashamed . No comment . If you about to join , this is what you can expect. Also need to pay a horrendous amount of joining fee. Just that you know before you spend
Bad Service!
One of the personal trainers at the HCC (Stuart Niven) has been seen openly promoting gyms in Liverpool that have been open during lockdown (now raided by Police and closed) on Facebook, which is disgusting. He makes comments in his posts like 'stay safe everyone' , then puts peoples lives at risk by not only encouraging others to go to these gyms, but then goes himself. A terrible example to be set by a 'personal trainer'!!
Overpriced, rude staff, thinks it is far fancier than it actually is.
Amazing place , staff service and even members are all a joy

Hale Country Club & Spa receives a mixed reception from its visitors, with many expressing dissatisfaction primarily due to the attitude of the staff and the management of membership fees. While some reviewers praise the friendly and professional service from specific staff members, like Liberty, and highlight the enjoyable spa experience, these positives are overshadowed by numerous complaints. Customers frequently mention rude interactions with staff, particularly at the reception, and express frustration over rising membership fees, which some consider excessive. The overall management of the facilities, including cleanliness and service quality, is also criticized, leading to a stressful experience rather than a relaxing one. Despite a few positive experiences, the majority sentiment leans towards disappointment.
