Michael's happens to be the only store…

Michael's happens to be the only store in the Niagara region that sells artist supplies. One in Niagara Falls and another in St Catharines. I have shopped in both stores whenever the convenience of the location is best for me at the time. My concern is art supplies as I am a painter. Each time I go to either store my disappointment escalates from my previous experience. I no longer will shop in any Michaels store from this point forward. Product availability and selection are very poor for the oil painting artist. It seems they are focused on hobbyists more than professional artists. oil color selection is very poor and they also carry one brand of paints. Accessories like paint brushes or brush cleaning products are inferior and many have their own Michaels brand. The staff is not knowledgeable or competent either. The check out process is another nightmare. My cashier had to redo my pricing 3 times before she got it right with the coupons or promotions they may have at that particular time. Usually when I purchase an item in any store I'm happy with my purchase. With Michaels it makes me want to pull my hair out after each experience. Sorry Michaels but you will not see me again in any of your stores. I will drive to Oakville or Toronto and deal with a competitor and spend the extra time or money to get the satisfaction for the necessary products or purchase online but never again from Michaels.

Rudest manager I’ve ever met

Rudest manager I’ve ever met, I wanted to make a purchase and use a coupon, The cashier explained the coupon was only good if I purchased it online, So I asked if I could purchase it online, but take it with me as I had it in my hand already, She explained I had to wait two hours, I said that’s pretty inconvenient since I have it in my hand right now could I ask the manager if they would let me take it after paying it online? She agreed and called the manager manager, Steve told me that he thought it was a great idea to purchase it online and have to come back after two hours, When I asked him, how is that even possibly Good for any reasonable person to have to come back after two hours, He got very loud and boisterous following me and would not let me get a word in, Extremely rude, People were staring at us. He caused a scene and would not let me get a word in, I’ve been in Retail since I was 16 and I know to remain extremely calm. He did not. It was getting to the point that he was bullying and I got teary-eyed, I left my purchase and sadly walked out with nothing, I was so upset that I looked to speak with Michael’s head office chat box, After explaining the situation, the chat box ended abruptly and they wanted a survey from me, I hope to hear from them, They have my email but I highly doubt it, It’s too bad customer service has gotten this bad, In the 80s and 90s Retail had a higher customer service unfortunately today that does not exist. It seems. This was at the bank, Ottawa location By the way,

Absolutely bad service

Absolutely bad service! I was so disappointed visiting this store for the first time today April 9th 2025 and it is going to be my last! I was so desperately looking everywhere to buy trifold project board for my son‘s presentation following day. I looked for stores in Bellevue and Redmond roaming over an hour. My spouse called in this store to check if they have and they confirmed they have it. I rushed from Walgreens Bellevue to this store at Crossroads 5min before store closing. Store manager did not allow me in at all, simply sighing they are closed. There was a couple inside who cane out exact 9pm that’s when sliding doors opened. I went in requesting to grab the board, explaining they made me wait outside until it passed 9pm and the store manager simply mentioned we were closed. I told that it was not fair to not allow a customer who made it 5min before store closed but she showed not courtesy! I felt so bad! The two other persons working in the store watched helplessly! Shouldn’t a customer be allowed in 5 min before closing? I understand people may be tired etc. but small courtesy would have made huge difference :(

THE WORST WEBSITE EVER

THE WORST WEBSITE EVER! Start an order, be ready to have a heart attack or nervous breakdown, I’ve been trying to add a couple of items since this morning and I keep getting this message: Error Code:Sorry, we've encountered an error. I decided to download the app😆😜🙄 same thing! WTH? And this is not the first time I have encountered issues with their site. I cleared cache and cookies, I’ve done everything suggested and nothing, then I was finally able to add 1 item and after inputting all my information, you guessed it got Error message! Total Garbage! I can’t!

AVOID: MICHAELS' IS NOT THE SAME as it was

full disclosure: I am NOT good at 'crafty' stuff-->my USUAL M.O. when needing to make something was to walk into Michael's looking like a deer in the headlights, make a beeline to the register and show the (usually) older lady what I was trying to make, and she would get someone (again, usually an older lady) to 'help' me (aka-->explain to me step by step what I needed to buy and how to use it LOL). THAT is NO LONGER ANY kind of option-->the workers not ONLY know NOTHING about crafting, but BARELY know where stuff IS in the store :( ADDING to this, when I bought the Cricut machine (vinyl cutter) the other morning (in Carlsbad as the local store didn't have one), I did NOT look at the box at all.....they had to get it from a back room, so I ASSUMED it was F.I.N.E. and we ALL know what "ASSUME" stands for: make an A** out of U and ME.... I did NOT have time to unbox it until I was done with work on Friday afternoon.....so at 5 pm I am finding out that the machine (apparently) had been a return-->it was missing ALL the important things.....so BACK IN FRIDAY TRAFFIC I had to go to swap it for a factory-sealed version. Emily (manager) DID exchange it, but NOTHING was offered to offset my inconvenience/fuel/time involved due to HER staff's ineptness in managing the item (returned and re-shelved). THEREFORE instead of being completely done by say 7:30 with this project, it was after 9 pm.

False advertisements

Was looking for some new t-shirts. Michaels had an advertisement (displayed on my phone) for "Gildan Adult T-shirts" all sizes. $3.99. That's one heck of a price, so I checked the actual website flyer on my PC. Sure enough ADULT T-shirt $3.99. Went to Michaels thinking yes I will buy a dozen of them and be set for some time to come. Well I get there and ADULT shirts are $13.99 while the $3.99 sale is on CHILDRENS shirts. Have screen shot of flyer and picture of shelf in store. False advertising.

Worse credit card I ever had

I would like to share my bad experience regarding Michaels credit card. I opened Michaels credit card in the store to get a discount but I never received a card itself and bill as well. After 2 month I finally received bill with charge of late payment $32.99 and pay interest of $19.58. After conversation with customer service and supervisor explaining this situation I was told that I still have to pay the interest. It was not my fault but they still want me to pay. Do not open Michaels credit card, they cannot be trusted.

Just left Michael’s in Pitt Meadows

Just left Michael’s in Pitt Meadows. It was not a pleasant experience. Acrylic paint was marked down with signs all over saying a dollar however it did not specify it was only certain colours on sale. When questioned the cashier was on the rude side. I think Michaels would benefit by teaching their employees polite customer service.

The website is so so bad

The website is so so bad! I have spent a couple hours off and on all day trying to get logged in and getting stuck in a password loop and not getting anywhere. I wanted to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of stretched canvas and it's telling me I can get rewards by applying for a credit card and being in the rewards program. It won't let me sign up for the rewards program because it says I'm already in it. Then it says I'm not in the rewards program. I should have rewards built up from all the money I spend at Michael's. Then it tells me it got my credit card that I applied for. And then it tells me that I can't log in. Then it it loses my order when I try to finally make it. Then I'm logged out and I can't get in and I can't reset my password because I'm stuck in a loop with them it's really horrible. I just wanted to buy the canvases and I wanted to receive a discount by having a credit card and rewards but I'm getting nothing out of this not a thing

Why wouldn’t the employees honour the stated price?

Went in to pick up some Daler-Rowney Aquafine Watercolor inks. Once I got to the checkout, the price wasn’t coming up as the price stated on the tags on the shelf, or the price online. I enquired with the employees there. I even showed them the price on the z Michael’s Canada website. Regardless, they would not honour the posted price, so I ended up paying more for every ink I purchased. I’m not really happy about the whole experience as I cost me more than it should have.

HORRIC Mess of a Home Delivery System

Note: the following comments apply ONLY to Michael's orders which feature home delivery of their products. I placed a large order to be delivered to my home. My assumption, which was incorrect, was that these items would be shipped from a central warehouse and come with a simple invoice showing the items whiich had been shipped. Instead, Michaels apparently has NO central warehouse. They reach out directly to imdividual suppliers and have the items snippped FROM THE SUPPLIER. This is INSANE. NONE of tnese people ever inclice ANY packi g invoice. They do not indicate that this is part of a Michael's order. I received a bjg bag of absolute CRAP from a co m pany called The Brooklyn Charm Company. I had notmordered ANY of the shoddy junk in the package. I tried to email the compa y. The email address on the package was INCORRECT. I looked up the acfual email address on line. I sent a polite emails OVER A WEEK AGO and thry hwve not bothered to respond. The Michaels delover to your home is HORRIFIC and chaotic. It is a poorly,designed mess which should be halted,totally halted, until it can be done right. Without a packing invoice, it is impossible to comfirm if all items have been shipped. Amd, of you set sent tne WRONG package by a supplier, you are "S.O.L"

Return Policy Makes No Sense…

Placed an online order and received someone else's order from a different province. Michaels switched the labels. Took 2 days to speak to anyone from customer service only to be told that they would not reissue my order until I returned the wrong parcel to a Michaels store. That is the most idiotic policy that requires the customer to fix the company's mistake. I told customer service I would not be driving across the city in -30 degrees weather, on bad roads or on my time and my gas because they screwed up. All I got for a response was "that's policy". I asked how they could hold my order hostage until I corrected their mistake and again got "that's policy". After mush discussion and frustration I was given "a one time offer" to have my order reshipped with no return required on my end. Again- why is the customer being punished for Michaels mistake?? What kind of policy is that? The other customer who obviously also received the wrong order will have to go through the same thing. I will NEVER place an online order for my school again.

Contacting Michael's customer service

When placing an online order, the system changed my mailing address. I noticed this after I had placed the order. There is NO way on their website to send an email or a text about a problem. Instead I am waiting by my computer for 30 minutes for their chat bot to connect me with a real person.

Didn’t issue refund after return until I called

I purchased an item online that is sold and shipped by Michael’s. Their return policy says you can return items sold and shipped by Michael’s in store. When I tried to do this I was told that they didn’t sell that in store so they couldn’t accept it. I tried another location and they insisted it was a third party seller and that I would have to send it back to them. I showed them it says sold and shipped by Michael’s. They asked if I had a receipt and I said no, it’s an online purchase. They asked if the email had a barcode and I said no. They asked if I paid with a debit card and I said no, I used PayPal. They said they couldn’t do anything. I tried having them look up a barcode on the original package and it didn’t work. They stopped helping me and just said it’s a third party seller and they can’t take it. Per the return policy they are supposed to look up online purchases by the confirmation number or with your ID. You are supposed to be able to do an in store return and if you paid with PayPal receive a cash refund no higher than $500. Since they wouldn’t help me I called Michael’s customer care line. The person on the phone again tried to argue with me that it was from a third party seller. I gave them the item number from the website because it’s still for sale and after they looked it up they said I was right and I could return it to Michael’s. I asked about returning it in store and they said they emailed me a return label and I could drop it off at a Michael’s location for them to ship it. I said that’s not what I’m referring to and they stated that is how you do an online return. I gave up and printed the label and took it to a UPS store. They said it would take 15-20 days to process my return. Per the tracking information they accepted the package on 12/27/2024. I didn’t receive an email confirming the acceptance of the package or that my refund was being processed. I called today, 1/17/2025, to check the status of my return. I sat on hold for 30 minutes before talking to a representative. They checked my return information and confirmed my return was received on 12/27, but that no one had processed my refund. They processed my refund to go through my PayPal account and said it should take 3-5 business days. If I hadn’t called, I never would have gotten my money back. Not only do they not train their sales associates on their own return policy; you also have to ensure your refund is processed otherwise they’ll just keep your money.

DO NOT ORDER FROM MICHAEL'S YOU WILL BE SORRY

I ordered an item from Michael's on December 30th, to be delivered in 3 to 5 days. There shipping method is UPS, there first mistake. Still waiting on my order. You cannot reach customers service by phone, you cannot reach anyone through live chat. What are consumers supposed to do?

We purchased a Christmas tree after the…

We purchased a Christmas tree after the holidays in Jan 2024. Due to it being after the holidays we did not open or put up. We assumed it would be as written and displayed. We paid $192.00 for this tree and on a fixed income that is a lot. We opened it to set up this November and it was not what we wanted or expected. After many attempts to contact them they finally got back to us and told us 60 days for return, sorry it's yours. This stinks as there was NO exception but to offer us in store credit with a time limit on it..$192.00 in store ?? with a 3 month limit of use ?? Michaels will no longer see our business or will we give any positive referrals to this company. At this store there are NO exceptions so learn from what they did to us and avoid this company / store..

BEWARE Michaels does not honour the…

BEWARE Michaels does not honour the prices they advertise and post in their stores. Look at your receipt carefully. I went to the Michael’s in the Stockyards, Toronto to purchase an item that was marked 50%off in the store and they tried to charge full price. I took the clerk to the shelf to show her it was clearly marked 50%. She said no this is a mistake, you can pay full price or leave it so I left. When I messaged their head office customer service, including a picture of the signage, I was actually told they don’t honour their advertised prices on sale or seasonal items. Ridiculous, they are willing to lose a long time customer for a couple of dollars and false advertising. Funny thing happened only a day later, I received an email from Michaels showing this item was now 60% off. Will never be shopping there again!
