Good service

Had an insurance policy with DirectTravel which had to be cancelled. Customer Service Adviser was very helpful. Policy cancellation fee taken as per policy and refund was in account next day. When we rebooked holiday we then took another policy out due to good service.

Avoid this Insurer - Doesn't cover stolen phones

Avoid this insurer for travel insurance, opened a claim back in mid December as my phone was stolen from me at gunpoint whilst abroad. Was in correspondence with the claims people for 7 weeks providing proof of ownership, police reports etc. Once all that is provided they decide to conveniently tell me that they do not cover mobile phones in theft, loss or damage. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. Get your insurance with an actual reputable insurer that covers basic things like stolen phones.

I’ve never had to make a claim on…

I’ve never had to make a claim on insurance before but I thought I would get cover by a well rated company when I booked my trip to Japan in 2019. Unfortunately in March 2020 a family member died (non COVID related), I called the helpline, they told me to book a flight home and back I came to be with my family. 9 months later I am still waiting after emailing for months being sent around in circles trying to provide documents that, at this time in the world with Covid, just do not exist. First the interim death certificate was not sufficient, next I needed to provide proof I didn’t take my original planned flight home (even though all flights were cancelled for months) and the document provided was not what would typically be received, and now I cannot be given the refund to my flight until I prove the exact refund amount I am due to receive from the original airline for the unused flight. Cathay pacific are not answering and still have not processed the refund for my partially unused flight. Is there any end in sight, next I’ll be told it’s been too long and my claim is no longer valid. What terms did I not meet? If you can’t even be covered when a family member dies, then what is the point in getting travel insurance?!

Due to the current travel uncertainties…

Due to the current travel uncertainties we decided to upgrade our single trip insurance to multi-trip insurance. It cost a fair bit more, but we have now at least peace of mind should we get delayed/stranded no matter what the date. The lady who dealt with this was friendly and helpful, and went through the process smoothly and efficiently. Thank you.

COVID-19 COVER - BE VERY CAREFUL

BE VERY CAREFUL - DIRECT TRAVEL INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER PANDEMIC/COVID-19 IMPACTS, UNLESS YOU HAVE A POSITIVE TEST. Paid for Winter Sports Insurance (Platinum) cover for party of 3, travelling by car to French Alps in March 2020. French Government closed all ski resorts due to COVID-19, on the Sat night we arrived. We had to return on the Monday, just before borders were closed and independent travel became restrictive. After many explanations to justify claim, the Claims Handling Agency (CSAL) simply refused to settle. Claim for additional travel, accommodation expense, piste closure, etc. was turned down - CSAL stating the exact cause [closed ski resort, by country authority] was not listed under 'Cutting your trip short'. The Dec 2020 Policy has now been updated to 'Extend Cover for COVID-19' - HOWEVER any claim will ONLY be covered if the insured person has a positive COVID-19 test. Also updated the list of exclusions, specifically excluding local government restrictions or directives that prohibit or restrict entry to intended destination - which makes it more frustrating that my claim was not settled before this policy update.

I got two policies from direct travel

I got two policies from direct travel. First week booked through compare the market was £29. I decided to stay an extra 5 days and it cost me £39. Feel a bit ripped off but I got insurance during lockdown so I suppose I should be grateful. Update. I made a mistake in taking out this policy and it is being rectified so I have updated my review to 5 star

Excellent customer service

Excellent customer service. Had to cancel my last policy due to holiday being cancelled. Rang up to just see if I could get my money back and I sure got it next day no questions asked. This is why I have renewed it once again. Always remember the cheapest is not always the best. Recommend 100%. Thank you
