Honestly don't do this

Beware the small print. This crowd are a bunch of charlatans. I developed a detached retina in my left eye and had to extend my stay in Australia for another three weeks. Claiming only rescheduled flights for myself and disabled son (no medical cost) The claim was rejected because as i had laser treatment on the opposite eye to remove a floater the previous year . Even though i had a supporting letter from the eye specialist to confirm that there was NO link either directly or indirectly. If your going on a skiing holiday and brake your left leg make sure you declare the tattoo on the right leg. Policy Number As Requested 9593-1426-49679 Thank you for reaffirming your final decision and drawing my attention to my final letter 😂 This was a review on Trustpilot and not a direct complaint to yourselves to make people aware of the pitfalls of buying travel insurance from companies like Direct Travel Insurance who outsource claims to brokers. Travel insurance has become a bad experience for many people.who make genuine claims and find that companies like Direct travel who will make them jump through hoops In order to reject claims with any excuse. Direct Line/Brokersure

Direct Travel /Brokersure I would rate lower however initially when purchasing the policy and before going on my holiday, Direct travel customer agents/service was helpful. I am slightly confused as it seems they work with brokersure so not “sure” whom I was dealing with. However whilst on holiday I had a small accident/injury where I had to seek medical attention and paid. Once back from my holiday in the first week of August, I submitted a claim via the right path online portal. That wasn’t the easiest and long story short, til this day I am still awaiting a response and some of the monies back for my claim. I emailed twice with no response then called two weeks ago after it went past the estimated date by 7 day (working days may I add) that also changed which thankfully I had taken a photo of the dates changing and told it was in queue to be reviewed. It’s been 6 weeks and nothing! I took the policy due to my health conditions to be covered as well for my child on their first holiday but I am just so grateful it wasn’t a case of a more serious matter that required help or a claim as waiting this long is ridiculous. If I had known that it goes through another company to be processed , I would not have taken the policy with them and for that reason , won’t again. I did spend around £100 for my holiday policy too.

Fine until you actually have to make a claim

I've been a loyal customer for about 20 years. In that time I'd previously only had to claim once and that was handled satisfactorarily (I'd even put a positive review up here). Having incurred extra costs due to a health issue while on my latest holiday in feb I won't be using direct travel again. The company that now handles claims is appalling, playing every trick in the book to make things hard going, presumably hoping you'll just give up. I'm over 4 1/2 months in and still have no decision. They ask you for endless sources of evidence but don't mention there is a 2mb limit to emails so your emails fail to go through. Then they close your case for lack of response! I've had to keep chasing and resending. It was my second chaser in which I was told they still hadn't had my response when the person I was speaking to mentioned the 2mb limit. Given the complexity of the evidence they wanted (document scans etc) 2mb is a tiny allowance. I decided to upload docs direct to the system only to find their system is very limited in the types of docs it will accept so I had to pdf everything - anyone less technical would have probably given up which is presumably the point. I've probably put about 5/6hrs into this claim so far and now have to wait nearly a further month till the claims assessor can review my further documentation due to a backlog. Just booking my next holiday and will be insuring elsewhere. Interesting that most reviews who have had to claim recently seem to be having similar -ve issues.

I made a mistake on my policy I contacted Direct informed them of it and the amendment was made immediately. Very prompt and impressive level of service. I am most impressed. Excellent stuff 10 / 10.

DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY. They did not pay out for my unexpected travel return so I could see my terminally ill dad (with a 1-3 month prognosis) before he sadly passed away. I was disgusted by this decision alone, but to make it worse, I had to pay an EXTRA £50 just to obtain a form to submit the claim which they subsequently denied. They denied this despite the Doctor confirming there was no way this could have been predicted / known prior to travel. I would tell family and friends to categorically avoid this company. I would have preferred to deal with them directly but it was all via third party. I will update this if contacted directly and resolved.

Avoid - Direct Travel you need to find another claims company to deal with!

Avoid - the claims company (CSAL) that Direct-Travel uses is a joke. Ultimately it is this company that you have to deal with in the unfortunate event of a claim so I would not purchase another policy from Direct-Travel knowing this. I had a stolen bag at the onset of a hiking trip and after submitting the claim it took nearly 6 months of repeated chasing, calling, to finally get any action. Then the claim amount calculated appeared to be pulled out of thin air, they double deduct you for wear & tare and do not offer fair compensation in line with the policy. Also the claims handlers are incompetent, rude, and don't answer your questions properly. The premium paid for this insurance was a waste - you can get better coverage for a better price and service elsewhere.
