When I looked for cover the quotes varied from between £70 and £1000 (and over) for the same trip. Direct Travel Insurance was not only the least expensive but also very easy to apply and the documentation arrived within a couple of minutes.

Stay away from this company. I made a claim for not travelling because of medical issues and still waiting for decision. They use a third part company to deal with claims - rightpath claims, which is extremely slow with responses. Claim Z437271 submitted in the middle of August - response in the middle of October. Two months took them to, to ask me for more documents, then silence again when I sent it . Seriously, Financial Ombudsman should be involved as their estimate response time is faaaar beyond 2 weeks as they state while you make a claim. Edit: Immediately after Direct Travel action, Rightpath claims speed up a whole process so claim has been sorted immediately. I would like to say thank you to direct travel and update my experience from 1 to 3 stars for it. Sadly, I can't give more stars as the case was settled far beyond timeframe and needed special action for insurance company.

Will not buy anymore. My bag was stolen in Belgium. Tried claiming for belongings. It took them 35 days to look in to the claim a just to come back and say my claim is invalid as I haven’t had reported it with authorities within 24hours. Although I have them all the info and tried but I was rubbed of my bag just before ferry back to UK and police web wouldn’t let me do it as it wouldn’t take my home address which was required. I told the insurance about all of this only to get rejected. Will never buy travel insurance with them as what’s the point if they don’t even sympathise with customer. Waste of money

To the previous person who has complained RE making a claim. We have been in the same situation. We can tell you the 29th November will come and go and you will hear nothing. You will be told if you contact them your enquiry is put to the back of the que. We have emailed Direct Travel Insurance to complain and are waiting to hear from them.
It was easy to set up a policy. However I’ve unfortunately had to submit an unexpected claim for cancellation and loss of accommodation (ref Z443059). I’m very distressed and upset to see that I should expect an update only by 29th November, this wait time is completely unacceptable
