I was very hungry, and visited the Bob Evans #10 in Kettering. I ordered the chicken fried steak to eat-in, and the turkey dinner for carryout. The server's face was hostile, but she wasn't rude, just unfriendly. I have seen that face many times in the Jim Crow south. A face that says, "You don't belong here." My steak was more like a thin, hard fried fritter, and the usually wonderful rolls were cold and dry, clearly old. I later ate the turkey, which included two thin slices of turkey. I had searched online which showed 3 slices of turkey so was disappointed. I had two scoops of dressing, for such a small serving of meat. It was okay, though, except for the hard rolls. Curious, I wanted to try another Bob Evans closer to home for comparison, #522. I ordered the exact same meal. I was pleased to receive the meaty chicken fried steak, and soft, hot, tasty rolls I was accustomed to at their restaurants. The turkey dinner however, also had only two thin slices of turkey, and the turkey was dry and hard, so is not a good value, even for the Dinner Bell menu of $8.99. I will not return to the #10 restaurant in Kettering as I left there feeling unwelcome. Nevertheless, I left the hostile server a generous tip, greater than 15%. She never smiled, never checked back to see if I needed anything else. When a group of several older white females came in the server was friendly to them and all smiles. I got her message.
