very difficult rental experience
Our rental property in South Carolina (we were the renters) changed over to Great Jones from a local company in spring 2020. We repeatedly had difficulty getting questions answered regarding some of the new policies when they took over the property. There was a balance on our account from a credit with the old company, and despite clarifying by phone ahead of time and including documentation with the next month's rent, which we paid reduced by the amount of the balance, we were quickly sent an eviction warning. It took days to get this cleared, which was extremely anxiety-producing. In general, over the 8 months they managed our house, it was very difficult to reach anyone by phone; very long wait times and several times was cutoff after being on hold for >10-15 minutes. I see on some current listings they advertise 24/7 phone support - not true. When we were ready to move out, I NEVER was able to reach anyone by phone to answer questions about the process and instead had to go back-and-forth via email. A lockbox was never left at the house for our move out day as instructed. Someone from Great Jones also called the power company and cut off power to the rental house a few days before our notified move-out date. I just happened to find this when I called the power company in advance to set up our info for our new residence, otherwise we would have been without power at the rental house over a weekend. Overall, very poor communication, difficulty reaching anyone in person when needed, which gives the impression they do not want interaction with tenants. Also, a current listing on Zillow advertises you can pay rent in cash - NOT TRUE. I rarely leave online reviews, and certainly not this lengthy or negative, but we were so relieved to get out of this frustrating relationship with a remote property management company.
