Worst experience I could ever imagine

Worst experience I could ever imagine. Took them 22 hours to recover us when we were just 1.5hours away from home. The only reason we got home 'as quick as we did' is because I refused to put the phone down until they had booked us a taxi to get back home after 18hours. I wrote a complaint while we were broken down and got offered a reduced rate to renew - can't believe they thought I would ever renew. Then I wrote a much longer complaint after the whole saga with 21 questions I wanted answering and they dismissed my complaint without telling me saying it related to the same breakdown so they don't do anything about it. I went to an ombudsman who said they could not help so essentially the RAC got away with diabolical service and communication and it seems there is no way to hold them to account. The most concerning thing was when we interacted with a recovery company and a hire car company as part of the RACs efforts to try and sort us out they also both confirmed that our experience with the RAC was by no means unique. For the first 12 hours we were quite tolerant and maybe naively believed we had just been unlucky but the next 10 hours confirmed this was usual service for the RAC particularly in the Lake District. Do not be fooled into using them!
