FAULTY TRIMMER DIDNT OFFER REFUND

Hello, so this morning I went to the shop to buy a new trimmer. I explicitly asked the employee there if I could refund it if it pulls on the hair, because I have had previous experience with that and have actually received a refund when it pulls the hair from other companies, and she said “Yes, you can”. When I got home, I tested the trimmer to see how it works, and it did pull on the hair instead of trimming it smoothly. I headed back to the store, to ask for the refund that they promised me I could get. I explained everything to them and they said now that they actually can't give me a refund. They are telling me they don't cover that, when before that they said that I can get a refund if it pulls on the hair. I am really disappointed and really stressed now, because of your employees and my blood pressure really increased nearly causing me to pass out. The trimmer doesn't cut, it is faulty it just pulls on the hair, and they can't offer me a refund when I explicitly asked them if I can get a refund for that before even paying for it. I want to exchange the trimmer for a new one or get a full refund of what I paid. The store is in Kettering.
