Beware: Michaels Credit Card and Comenity Bank Cost Me Time and Money
I was encouraged at checkout to open a Michaels credit card to "save money" on my purchase. I agreed — but I never received the physical card or any account information. Despite not having a card or full account details, I was charged late fees almost immediately. I made a minimum payment just to keep the account from getting worse while waiting for my card to arrive. When I finally received the card, I discovered that Comenity Bank had already charged me three separate interest fees, even though the delays appeared to be caused by their own system. I contacted customer service to explain the situation, but they refused to reverse the charges. In my opinion, a good bank would have offered a courtesy reversal, recognizing that the delay in setting up the account was outside of my control. Instead, I was left to pay for their mistakes. What was sold as a "great savings opportunity" turned into an expensive, frustrating experience. Be very cautious before signing up for a Michaels credit card or any card serviced by Comenity Bank.
