Don't book for long flights, you won't be able to select seats in advance
In case of itinerary with conjunctive flights with a different airline, there's no way to add ancillary services in advance (Pre-paid baggage, advanced seats, etc.). One has to wait until 24 hours prior to departure time. Customer service confirmed this to me. That is RIDICULOUS, also considering how much I paid for the tickets.
