Online Portal Deceptive, Unethical Late Fees Not Waived
On 1/31/21 your online portal displayed that I had a total outstanding balance of $910.00 owed for February. I paid that full amount. On 2/1, without any email notification, my rent increase went into effect, which was an extra $36 I didn’t realize was outstanding because the system said I’d paid February in full as of 1/31. I get an email on FEBRUARY 22nd saying I now owe a $95 late fee because your system displayed an incorrect total. When I tried to explain what happened the response was merely a history of my payment history & no acknowledgment that the online portal gave me misadvise on my total owed (a difference of $36). I have never missed a payment & always paid early. I had funds in my bank account to pay the full $946, but considering it wasn’t showing owed for February on 1/31, I paid the displayed total outstanding displayed. The only reason I didn’t pay $946 in full on 1/31 is that your system was displaying an incorrect total owed for the following month. That disproportionally large late fee of $95 should be waived considering I had funds available to cover & would’ve paid immediately had I known that extra $36 was tacked on 2/1. I have screen shots displaying that your portal displayed I had satisfied my total outstanding balance on 1/31 for February. I feel like I’m being punished for paying my rent early because somebody there neglected to input my new lease info into the online portal. I paid the $36 immediately after I was notified it was outstanding. Terrible customer service, this is deceptive & moreso unethical.
