Clean, quiet hotel

This is for a stay at the Drury Inn in St. Joseph, MO. The pros: 1. Very clean 2. Very Quiet 3. Friendly staff 4 Excellent breakfast which includes toast, pastries, apples, bananas, oranges, three types of cold cereal, hot oatmeal, sausage, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, apple and orange juice and coffee. There was a covered pan labeled pancakes, but there were none the two days we stayed there. 5. They also have a 5 p.m. meal 6. Pool was open and appeared to be clean. 7. There is a second thermostat on the wall so that you do not have to go to the built in wall unit to control the temperature. Cons: 1. Entrance may be somewhat hard to find for some people because hotel sits behind a convenience store/gas station and the entrance is through a shared parking lot between that store and a Mexican restaurant. 2. There was a slight sewer smell in the lobby the day we checked in, but not in the rest of the hotel. This smell was gone by the second day so it must have been a temporary problem with a nearby restroom. 3. The set up for hanging clothes is weird. Instead of a rod going al the way across and a shelf for clothes and hats above that, there is a short rod high up on the same level as the shelves, then the shelves themselves in a sort of cube shape and then a longer lower rod under the shelves for more clothes. The upper rod is too narrow to hang more than a couple of things and the iron and ironing board are in the same space. We had to move the iron to have enough space to hang up our longer clothes because they dragged the floor on the lower rod. 4. The hinged door for the bathroom had been removed and a sliding door on a track had ben installed on the wall outside the bathroom. The problem was that the door would not stay slid all the way shut and left at least a 6"gap. Not only was this a privacy problem when answering the call of nature in the bathroom, but the door also covered the clothes hanging area when slid open. We were constantly sliding the door one way or the other. 5. There is no vent or heat bulb in the bathroom. If you stink up the bathroom you just have to live with it, even in the rest of the room, since the sliding door would not stay all the way shut. The mirror also fogs up with no vent. If you are cold blooded you have to dry off quickly with no heat bulb. 6. The bathroom had apparently been converted to a handicapped room because it had a walk-in shower, handrails around the toilet and the aforementioned sliding door, We had not asked for a handicapped room, but were OK with that. The doorway looked wide enough, and the bathroom was big enough, that we wondered why they needed to remove the original door. Also, the toilet seemed to be regular height rather than handicapped height, although we did not measure it. The pros far outweigh the somewhat minor cons and we would recommend a stay here.
