FAO Staffie owners!!
I have a 3 year old blue Staffie with allergies that have been progressively getting worse as he has become older. It is now October and his constant biting at his paws was worse it's ever been. His mum was allergic to pollen but obviously being October pollen count wasn't high enough anymore to cause such a big reaction. Had have several vets trips. He was on piriton 3x a day, which then went up to Apoquel 2x a day which didn't touch the sides. The vets suggested blood tests at £300 a time and for him to be put on steroids the rest of his life. In the mean time I tried all your usual supplements, stinky stuff etc etc. Nothing worked. Knowing what steroids do to humans, I did more research and came to the conclusion of doing a private allergy test. I came across UK food intolerance and had really good reviews and although being sceptical about what they would find, for the price I couldn't complain compared to vets bills. Really simple kit and gave me the results within very short turn around. Turns out my boy is highly sensitive to Gluten protein! I had a question about the results and Janice from customer service got back to me within 24hours. These tests do not say what your dog is allergic to but give guidances on sensitivity levels. Since the test I have changed my boys food to hypoallergenic particularly gluten free and already noticed a difference with his paws and even the back end! It hasn't even been a week yet. I'm looking forward to seeing how he is in 6 weeks when he is completely on hypoallergenic food. THANKYOU UK FOOD INTOLERANCE!! I firmly believe you have saved years on my dog by him not having to go on steroids.
