A challenging sale
Selling a large, grade II listed, 16th century house was always going to be a challenge in these times of energy efficiency and modern styling, so it was a pleasant surprise when a buyer was quickly found. However, that sale fell through on the planned day of completion when my buyer's buyer couldn't fund his purchase. I had moved out two days earlier so an empty house went back on the market. Again a buyer was found reasonably quickly but then the challenges of listing, planning permissions, land issues, etc took a long time to tackle. In the end we completed just before Christmas. Harry and Gurdev from John Shepherd were regularly in touch, always with a sense of optimism, and steered the sale through the various difficulties, not least the intransigence of certain solicitors. Especially welcome was avoidance of non-serious buyers tramping regularly through the house; credentials were closely examined and only serious buyers allowed into the process. All in all, John Shepherd handled everything to my satisfaction.
